Awesome man!! Just curious, do they spawn and die just like on the west coast? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes but not 100%.

Yes Gord, sad to see, but after the Chinnok spawn they also become bank fertalizer Though if you get a solid fresh run, like Bunk and I found a few times over the course, whoa they can still scrap the arms off ya

I was there on Sunday as well ,fishing couple miles upstream. This pool was too busy
If I just knew you guys are there I could learn something new )
Fished Grand river for Browns and then Bronte,Oshawa and Ganny for Salmon. Not to mentioned money I have made in Niagara casino and Rolling Stones concert in Totonto.Spent five great days. I was amazed with the amount of fish after rain that weekend..
Just read yours ,MB and Marcus report ...nice to see you guys had a awesome time as well....

I love to creek fish, but I do believe at some point, we as anglers have to learn to respect the salmon run and their vulnerability and close these tribs to angling.

Can you imagine if those were bass?

- If they die after spawning, are they any good to eat if you catch one? I guess not.

- Rainbow trout and salmon spawn in the creek where I grew up but they spawn in the spring. What kind of salmon are they? We always assumed Chinook.

- Last question, is this normal? Has this river always been overflowing? Are there hundreds of people down there fishing them right now?

Yes they are still spawning. Season is open all year around but not in upper body of rivers

Personally I don't eat them but I know people that would keep them. Especially if they are fresh from the lake

Yes, Chinook mostly but there is number of Coho's pink and few Atlantics
(talking Ontario tribes)

Yes and No, usually big run like this would happened after big rainfall and weather temperature drops. Starting end of August until end of October (could be later as well) is time of the year when major run is on. They run upstream every day but not in the same numbers. Usually end of Sep until middle of oct is the time when most of the salmon runs upstream.

Salmon are not protected during their spawning period and the season remains open. It was believed that the spawn was a false spawn and the stocked fish did not reproduce. It is know being discovered that there is a successfull spawn. I'm betting we'll see reg changes in the next 5 years to reflect this.

Salmon no not feed during the spawn, but they certainly do hit baits. They'll strike out of frustration, protection of a bed and also out of instinct. Salmoniods are natural filters in creeks too...that's how they feed...they grab debri mouth it, if its food they swallow it , if it's junk they spit it out. It's their nature.

Only fresh fish are good to eat. If it's dark, it's fleash has started to decay and it's no good as table fare.

Salmon only spawn in the Fall. Rainbows spawn in the spring. (some minnor exceptions with late and early spawners)

This is very normal. Salmon will stage in the lake at the mouth of a river and when conditions are right, they will run the trib in masses.

Salmon trib fishing attracts all kinds. I fully respect guys like Floatfishin who go out and do it right, but unfortunately he's in the minority. Most just snag em and masacar them. It's a sad situation to witness. The fish are completly vaulnerable and some yahoo makes himself fell like a great fisherman by buring a treble hook in the back of the fish with 12.99 Zebco combo. grrrrrr.
