The engine is a 1986 4 cylinder. Does anyone have an idea based on experience what the cost might be to fix something like this? I’d welcome comments from the mechanics out there as well.
Thanks.

Hi Mike thanks for the PM. You confirmed what others have said. For me its a toss up between buying a good used or fixing it. At the end of the day my motor is an still an '86 even after a rebuild. I'll keep lookin' for a good used until until i make up my mind to fix it or not.

Boat as well

:D Mountain man, I've got a whole boat I'll sell you for the price of the rebuild, 75 hp on a boat....that's right

I'm sick of trying to collect on this bill  and have not heard from the owner since last June so the boat is considered abandoned...

Call me if you like and we can make some arrangements......

Motor runs good and the boat is a freebie, just want my money...waited too long....

So sorry from the owner but he obviously doesn't want the boat anymore... .

Well I'll be back on the water soon after all. As it turns you can buy a good used engine for the price of fixing an old used broke engine. In my case an '86. The replacement is 2003 merc 75hp 2 stroke on an 87 maxum bowrider with a matching trailer. All for the price of a rebuild. The boat is a little tired but will work well while I work on the 78 aluminum Startcraft bowrider turning it into the fishing machine. It will get the new merc on it this fall or next summer. The best sites too check were Kijiji and Used Ottawa. Thanks for your thoughts I could feel the good Fishing Karma and a like fishing a little luck too.
