:D :D :D

Just a quick update, .....

Didn't have too much time today to get anything done, .....with helping my son move out and all....(getting way too old for this stuff, ....especially a 2nd floor apartment, ......AAAAHHHHH!!!!)

Did manage to snap a few pics of the bottom where the leaks are, ..... 8)

Don't understand how I missed these, ...sticks out like a sore thumb when you know where to look, ....

Image

Image

Image

Image

I should really replace them, ....and I probably will, ....but I want to do it right, ....a little research first, ...or maybe even get it done somewhere over the winter,....

So for now, ....I'm going to plug them up with my aluminum stick, ......
and start planning the rebuild, .....

Just a little reflection, ...... :?

Where the rivets had broken off, .....the floor had been screwed into those ribs, .....obviously when it was redone, ......I'm speculating that this was a mistake, and the floor should "float" on top, .....
With it screwed down like that, ..there was no "give" when running in rough water, .....and the rivet heads lost the battle with the floor, ...when it needed to "move"

The other side was not "screwed" down, ...and no rivets have gone missing....

Image

Image

Anyone care to offer any opinions, insights, observations, experiences, ...etc, ....etc, .... into this? :? :D

At any rate, ...the new floor will not be screwed "directly" to the ribs.... :D

The other thing I got done today is this....

See where the bilge pump "sits", ...or "sat" .....

Image

Noticed yesterday, ...that you needed damn near two inches of water in the bottom of the boat, ...before this stupid thing would start to suck anything...

Modification complete, .....This alone should help cure most of my "Live well" problems....

Image

So the holes are plugged temporarily, ....will start picking up the stuff I need for my new floor next week, ....

I'm thinkin', ..... another dunkin' next friday again, before reassembly, ...

That's about it, ...."Field Trip" planned for tomorrow, ....so hopefully I'll just have a regular "run of the mill" fishing report tomorrow tonite...

Yeah, ...I thought about it after the fact, ...but, I did try to grab it several times, ....and it just slithered out, ...... :x

I mean, ....when all you can see is the tail, ..and it's thrashing away, ....cause he wants to check out that "rec" room in the bow, ...I really didn't want every "cat" in the neighbourhood, ...climbin on my boat for a couple days after I got home, ....not to mention the lingering "tell tale" evidence, ...if the stupid thing had actually got up there...

What can I say, ....I wimped out, .....Once I get a floor back in 'er, ...I promise to hold them right, ....okay?

Catch ya' all on the flip side....

:) Skooter you madman. You mean we were off Bronte in that rough water in a sieve? The bilge pump was the warmest thing in your boat!

Exellent work on the repair. Now if you could only keep the cooler from dumping all the spoils of victory in rough water!

ps. That's a respectable Cat for the Grand isn't it?!

:D :D :D

Finally got back at 'er tonite, ...for a bit anyways....

Time to start gettin 'er back together...

I've been thinkin about it off and on all weekend, .... :?

This is what I came up with, ....

I'm going to use some of the old floor, .... as a new sub floor... 8)

Aw heck, ....took some pictures, ...so I'll show ya them, ...instead of trying to explain it all

This is the drivers side, ...bow up, ...(I know, ...you knew that)

Image

I cut a bunch of 3" wide strips, ....these are cut to whatever length I need, and then sandwiched between the angle plate along the bottom of the side and the ribs, ...another piece the same length will be screwed down to the channel,.....The outside will be screwed to the angle plates only..., ...not the ribs... :D

the square sheets are there, to add support for my pedestal bases...

Image

This pic isn't the best, ...it was gettin' dark

Image

See the long light board in the middle,
.....a properly cut board will sit in there, ....it will be the full width of the middle between the channels, ...probably most of the length of the boat....that will all be sub floor storage...room for the oars, rigger balls, ..prop, etc...

The finish floor will be 1/2" ply, ....and will sit right on top of this "subfloor"

See how the sub floor hangs past the channel by a 1/2" or so...

Image

The finished floor will follow the channels, ....and that extra will be the lip for the centre storage lid to rest on....

That's the plan anyways, .....it will become more clear, ...as I get a bit more done, .....I hope....

So what do ya think, .....?

I'll keep puttin up some pics as I progress...

That's it for tonite...., gettin' close to beddy time, ...oh brother...

Yeah, ....I got that way, ...fixing boats....

I guess, ....to be "politically correct", .....before someone else "politically corrects" me,

That's the biggest "bullhead" I've pulled out of there, ...on the flip side, ...I've gotten a few channel cats in that stretch of river, .....that were bigger.....,

Biggest ones always come on minnows....

:D :D :D

I finally got back into the boat today, ...a few times

Things did not get off to a good start however, ....

I was up early and made the 40 odd mile trip to the "local" marina,
...wanted to pick up the stuff I need for my seats, ....

I arrived to find them "closed", ....apparently thanksgiving falls on sat., ....in the smaller "burbs"..

So ten bucks in gas and an hour or so later, ....I'm back home, ....with nothing even to show for my efforts yet...

Had a few "errands" to take care of, ...and it was on to the "depot" (now, .... if they were closed for the holiday, ......I was headin back to bed  )

Home with my supplies..... :D

Image

First thing was to finish up the subfloor, .......

All these boards are fastened down now.....

Image

Image

The "strips" are the only thing screwed to the two centre channels...

"Everything" is screwed to the angle at the bottom of the sides, .....with 1/2" wood screws...., so nothing is actually "screwed" to the bottom of the boat.

This shows the first piece of my subfloor storage in place....

Image

Image

This is really going to give me a lot more room "topside", .....might even be able to stow my planner mast down there..... :D

Another small plan change....... 8)

See the board that stretches all the way across at the back, .....decided I don't need four seats, ....so the third pedestal is going to sit in the middle of that board.....

Tomorrow I will finish up the back end....

Image

Going to have to drag the gas tank and battery out again, ....

The plywood should extend to about a foot past my transom "curtain"...

The battery will be fastened down right behind the curtain on the left side, that way I can disconnect the battery connections, ...without getting in the boat, ....my backup gas tank will snug in behind it.

Picked these up to fill in the space behind the ply, ...to the back of the boat....
:D
Image

cedar fence boards...., ...these will be completely removeable, ...so I can get right into the back, ....to check things over now and again....

Last thing for tonite....

Image

This is what I'm coating the ply with, ....after I get it screwed down,
....I've used it for years on my deck and the cedar chairs I built, ....head and shoulders above that "Thompsons" stuff... :P

I really want to get this baby wet again, ....before the final floor is installed, ....just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings, .....

Oh Yeah, ....."HAPPY THANKSGIVING" everybody.... :D :D

:D :D :D

Never got a chance to float the boat today,....

Had our thanksgiving turkey this afternoon, ....All the "fledglings" that "flew" the coup and their partners attended, ...I even brought "papa" home to enjoy the feast, :D :D

.....So not much time for my puppy...

However, .....everything is now "DONE", ....."FINI", subfloorwise.

Hopefully, ....I'll be able to sneak out for a couple of hours in the morning, .... :)

I would like a visual inspection first, .....but one way or the other, ...the floor is goin' in, ..... tomorrow!!!!!!!

Took a few pics today....

Final section of my storage space installed...

Image

One side of the rear supports done...

Image

Far side done now....

Image

Bilge pump hose was getting old and brittle, ...so I installed a new piece...

Image

Image

Yeah, ....I hear ya, ....gotta sort out that spagetti a little bit too

Just a pic from the other direction...

Image

We're entering the home stretch here, ....I think the worst is behind me now, :D ...maybe, ...hopefully, ......

With any luck, ...things should look a lot better by tomorrow nite...
