I have the day off tomorrow (Friday) and the forecast calls for sunny skies with a temperature of 15 degrees celcius....think I'll see if I can't get those Tamagawa carp to cooperate. Oh yeah, there's no transit strike here.....

So, I didn't go out on Friday as planned - some more important (she said it was more important) stuff got in the way.

Managed to get out on Sunday morning. It was a freezing +12 degrees at 9 AM and people were sporting parkas and ski jackets with scarves and gloves. Of course, I just wore my fleece vest. Since it was so cold, I had a section of the river all to myself.

Within an hour the temperature had already reached 18 degrees - it felt like one of those balmy days in late September back in Ottawa.

I have new respect for carp. They are not stupid like bass or even rainbows. They know what's what and generally avoid being hooked. I fished for 4 hours and managed one very quick strike and long distance release.

Met the guy who's the carp on the fly expert. His English is as bad as my Japanese, but we made arrangements to meet next weeend on Sunday @ 1 PM. We swapped some flies and he gave me some great info about trout fishing in the upper stretches of the Tamagawa, closer to the mountains. I'll have to see about getting up there before my next contract begins in late March.
