float tube

I have a couple of questions about float tubes.I fish a couple of small rivers where the water depth varies and the current can be strong enough in the areas. I can canoe upsteam with some effort and would like to know if current can be negotiated in a float tube. Also the river depth variation can be 200 feet of shallow 2 to 3 feet deep then deep pools for another 200 feet and so on. Would i have to stop take the fins off, pull the float tube to the next deep pool . Is it difficult walking across slippery granite in fins to get into and out of the water. Also i have seen some pictures of people in float tubes some seem to be up to their armpits or close to it does this make casting difficult.
