I just checked my fishing log, It seems that I have not caught a brookie in almost 3 years Does anybody know any spots for brookies in new york, quebec or ontario??
I know that they are the smallest of trout, but they have such nice colours
I know that lips are tight for trout spots because they are often harvested, but I am a catch and release guy, so i plan to release them all

Ahhhh, young lads.

I'm not sure an internet message board is where you're gonna get fellas to give up their brookie holes.

Hopefully someone will send you a PM with a few suggestions. I know of no brook trout streams that deserve an internet annoucement.

I've provided a couple links to the NY DEC site. The folks down their bend go the extra mile for sport fishermen. You can find the listings for streams/rivers/lakes in Region 5 (all within 1.5 - 2.5 hours of Ottawa)

You can also contact the various DEC hatcheries for their stocking lists for up to day info as well.

As for Eastern Ontario, a number of the lakes in the Calaboggie area have brookies. I might be able to dig up the stocking list. The MNR will gladly give it to you if you request it.

As for your comment about Brookies being small...I'm sure anyone tangling with a Lake Superior "Coaster" Brookie will say otherwise. The Ontario record is 14.5 lbs.

There are lots of small lakes in eastern Ontario that are stocked with brookies. Call the relevant MNR offices and they'll tell you which ones they've stocked. The Backroads Maps books are pretty good sources of info on Ontario & Québec waters. Get a float tube if you haven't already.

I found brookies were particularly tough to take on the fly this year. I'm not sure how anyone else did, but I only managed to catch some in the early part of the season. My feeling is that they receive too much pressure from the catch & keep anglers. However, the ice fishers and bait fishers seem to take their limits (and then some) every time out. In spite of this, a few of these lakes still hold fish.

I'm looking forward to ice-out in 2006!!!

A lot of lakes in Calabogie area are stocked with brook trout. Don't
expect though anything big. 12" is about as big as you can get with
few exceptions. Last summer with so high teperatures was not too good for them but you could sill get them on flies fishing deep. A few lakes to name - St. Pierre, Tooey, Marble, Holmes, Centre, Scully, Upper Twin.

A couple of the creeks around here have em. I haven't tried for them but have seen some and have heard a few good spots to try from trustworthy sources. its a little far for ya though.
nothing to cast a fly at either - small creeks.

Just to let ya know they closed on sept 30th, but for ice or ice out calabogie has plenty of lakes to offer ya!! Grab a backroads mapbook and have fun!
