Hello - Iintroductions

Post by wongrs »

It's taken my 4-5 months to find this board, but I've finally found you!

My name is Rich and I've recently relocated to Ottawa from Calgary. It's taken a bit of time to find an Ottawa-area focused board and it's a bonus that there's a fly-fishing section here!

I am interested to join the Ottawa Fly Fishers Society and get involved with other organizations in matters of conservation (water, land, species etc).

I'd also like the opportunity to get out and fish the area with board members here if anybody is interested. I plan on catching lots of bass over the next few months out of the Ottawa River, Mississipi and Rideau. I'd also like to pick up steelheading around the Great Lakes. Looking forward to exploring the area.

Here are a few pictures of my flyrod exploits over the past few years. Enjoy!

Hi Rich. Welcome to Ottawa. Nice pix.....

The OFFS meets the 1st Tue (thanks TB) of every month and has a fly-tying night on the 3rd Tue of every month. Once bass season opens at the end of June, the OFFS meetings stop and the weekly Tue Night Fish outings will start and go through Sept. I was introduced to the OFFS and others on this board through the Tue Night Fish outings.

I'm quite fond of Mon Night Fish outings and Wed Night Fish outings and Thu Night Fish outings and ..... I think you will find lots of people around here who don't need much of an excuse to head out for a fish.

Doug

Welcome, Rich.

Love the photos of the cuttie and the bull!!! I lived in Calgary 25 years ago and I never fished in the year and a half i was there. :( I've been back a few times and had an opportunity to fish around Mt. Assiniboine.

Do you have a float tube? It's a handy tool for fishing some of the waters we have in the region.

Look forward to seeing you at the OFS meetings.

Rich,

Welcome to FH. We'll look forward to seeing you at the OFS meetings. Note: A correction to Doug's post, the meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month.
I'll be starting up the Tuesday evening fishing once the weather cooperates. ;-)

Cheers,
Todd

sweet action! the fishouts are the kind of thing i'm looking for. a way to get to know the area and meet some fisher people.

is there a schedule of the topics covered at the OFS meetings and fly-tie nights available online? i couldn't find it on the website.

Rich,

While we're still working on the OFS website (www.ottawaflyfishers.com) the calender of events on the site looked up to date the the last time I checked.

There are also the occasional fishouts to PA for steelhead, and NY for trout. I believe that some of the members are looking at hitting the spring steelhead run in PA.
