Oshawa creek clean up.

Post by bowboy33 »

It's that time of year, again. Summer's winding down, thoughts of Bass and
Walleye are replaced with dreams of silvery migrants fresh from the depths of
the big lake. Time to dust off the float gear and prepare for the steelheader's
favourite part of the calender - autumn. There's nothing like a hot chrome
rocket energized by the cooling waters of fall, its body thick and muscular
after a full season of gorging in the open water.

But first, before we all get carried away with spending all out free time either
thinking about or in pursuit of the magnificent Steel, it's time to put
something back into the resource we all cherish. Yep, that's right, time for
another river clean-up !

The FloatFishing Conservation Group, in conjuction with the good folks at the
Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority [CLOCA], will be hosting a clean-up
of Oshawa Creek. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sepember 9th at 9:00 am,
with all volunteers meeting in the CLOCA parking lot at 100 Whiting St. in
Oshawa [directions below]. The project is expected to be completed by early
afternoon of that day. A dumpster and truck will be provided to assist in the
effort, volunteers should bring work gloves and boots/waders. A BBQ lunch should
provide plenty of opportunity for socializing. Plus, you have a chance to go
home with some "loot", that's kindly been offered for raffle by our sponsors.

For those familiar with Oshawa Creek, you know what a little gem this trib is
[or could be]. Unfortunately, it runs through an urbanized area, that presents
it own unique challenges [eg. shopping carts]. So, get involved, let the rest of
the community know that anglers care, and a leave a lasting legacy for our
children.

All are welcome [kids, wives,gf's, etc.] to participate. It'll be a great
opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones, and the perfect way to
kick-off the upcoming season.

Please post on floatfishing.net, or e-mail me at rickg300 at hotmail.com, if you
plan to attend so we can get an estimate of numbers. Thanks in advance.

See you there !

I spent two and a half hours about 3 weeks ago cleaning out the creek. Lots of city of oshawa pylons and just plain garbage. I am always cleaning that creek. I hope to make it to your clean up day. So count me in for 4.(wife, kids and myself.)

Oshawa creek cleanup

Until I moved I was on that creek regularly spring and fall. Always diappointed at the way Wentworth kids looked after it. People who have been there know exactly what I am talking about! Shameful for a creek that can be that productive then you get the snaggers. Keep me informed when you will do this again, I will tell a few friends down there then maybe we can clean up the oversized trebeller's there too! Doea anyone no how the Valley drive hole is holding up?
