Species:
You'll find largemouth galore in this lake, and by picking the right spots, you'll find smallmouth and pike.

Getting There:
Heading South on Hwy 15, head west on Jones Falls Rd for 5 km till you get to Sand Lake Rd on which you will turn right (north). The next left is Glover Rd. Take it to Hughes Rd and turn left again. Its about a km to the Marina where a launch fee applies. If you keep going on Glover, there is a free launch at the end of the road.

OR

Heading south on Hwy 15, in Elgin look out for Davis Lock Rd and head west for 1 km to Bush Rd. Turn left on Bush Rd and continue for half a km to Battams Rd. Turn right on Battams and go to the end (about 2 km). This is a small gravel launch - but its free.

Fished there years ago. Nice lake, but get there early in the year. You really need to get back in the coves and hit the lilly pads hard. The further in you go, the better. Plastic frogs, mice and shallow running crankbaits worked the best. We only caught bass, and few small walleye. Bass were average size, and hard to find. Open water is full of speed boats and pontoons. Hazards are clearly marked throughout the lake. At the southern end, beautiful ride on a boat, although fishing was slow.

I've fished there couple of years ago, and I've caught several largemouth bass (one 4 pounder included!) in between Powel's Island and Sand Lake Campground. There's a deep area (10ft?) that has largemouth!
