Hi Lorenzo,

I just received Bob's reply to your original message regarding the 7-pound bass:

Dear Lorenzo,

My brother, Wayne, caught a 7 pound bass on Rice Lake in a Classic several years ago and he caught another one over 7-pounds while practicing on Rideau Lake a number of years back. Other than that one, myself or Wayne have never weighed in a 7 on Rideau.

Congratulations to your son for truly catching a fish of a lifetime, especially in a tournament!

Bob Izumi

Good Fishing!

Topwater caught a 7.01 Lbs Bass on the Rideau a couple of years back, both Mike and I were working the weed and slop lines along the river one afternoon....with little luck, when I spotted a paper plate on the edge of the slop....I bet mike I could put my tube closer to the plate than him, my cast was about 7" away...Mike stood up and let his tube fly , missed the plate by a couple of feet , Then BANG the fish hit after about a five minute battle the fish was in the net....weighed in at 7.1 LBS..... biggest bass I ever saw...I won the bet...and Topwater gets a fish of a Lifetime :D :D

Big O

A 7.01 lgrm is a nice bass, however the one that my son Dom caught was 7.09 lbs lgrm, this bass was caught on our first B.A.A. tournament (2004 ) this all took place on the Rideau River, we launched from Taylor Park.

Hey LORENZO I just got this message sent me:

Dear LORENZO,

Hey Bud, nice fish story, you don't happen to have any pictures of that 7+ lb bass do you? Cause if you don't have a big fish pic, you've got a big fish story!

Cheers,
Al Linder

Hey QuakerOatz.

I don't understand how Al Linder got involve in all of this, anyways it does not matter. Even thought there were no pictures taking of this bass, but let me assure you that the weight was witness by members of our club and also by some spectators. It just to show you that you don't have to be a pro to catch a fish of a life time, all it took was, to be at the right place, right time, right presentation, and a little luck. So for all of you out there never give up because it will happend to you.

I prefer Bob Izumi over Al anyways.

Hello Lorenzo,
Wasn't there another fish also caught over 6lbs that same day in your group?

What did your son do with that 7lber?

That's on big fish.

Hey grumpy 7790.

You are correct on your assumption, here are the weights caught that day

1- 7.09 lbs largemouth ( Lorenzo & Domenic Di Loreto )

1- 7.01 lbs largemouth ( Rick Rouleau )

1- 6.30 lbs largemouth ( Pete & Kim Larmand )

1- 6.02 lbs largemouth ( Lorenzo & Domenic Di Loreto )

All of the above fish were weighted on a tounament scale, and all were witness by club members and spectators. All of the above fishes were all release safetly, and with care.

Since nobody asked what the 7.09 lbs & 6.02 was caught on I will tell you, both of those fish were caught with a Gambler 5 inch Brown & Gold Paddletale, rig with a 3/8 once bullet sinker, 17 lbs test Excaliber line, the rod was a Shimano 7 ft Medium Heavy action. The final weight that my partener ( by the way he happens to be my son ) and I was 15.30 lbs for a 4 fish limit.
