I drove past on the bridge yesterday too and noticed all the ice from Britania/Deschenes was all gone, its weird beacause they had over 3 feet of ice in some areas, i didnt know it could melt that fast.JP i was going to say hi to you yesterday but the Baitcasters booth was very busy and so were you.

Thanks for the tip! I can't get out on the water until after April 20th (exams) so I'm glad its still another week or so, so I don't miss out on any of the action.

Also I had fun chatting with yah JP at Baitcasters. Should be fun fishing against yah in a tourney. 8) :D

Let me assure you all, that the ice is not gone, its just detached.

I got run over, and smashed into, by a good many chunks of ice this past weekend.

It doesnt do a thing to me in my plastic bathtub, but to a fibreglass boat running at 40+ km /h the story would be very different.

BTW, the Ottawa is basically closed above the Cheneaux Dam (near Portage du Fort / Cobden) and when they decide to open it, there will be another few days of ice to wash down, in addition to people docks and other assorted garbage.

The Petawawa river still has alot of ice in it, meaning Algonquin Park still has alot of ice in, and in the woods up there I would guess 6 inches of snow still.

Hi Phitty

Actually, the Petawawa is flowing full force from Hwy 17 down to the Ottawa River now. You can tell that the melt is on from above in Algonquin Park and snow run off. As well, the Ottawa River from Deep River to Pembroke is wide open now with only ice on the shorelines.

Yesterday my partner Mike and I launched at the Yacht Club and put another 1.5 hrs on the new boat. We took our time. Yes, there was still some ice coming down the river, but, you just couldn't run and drive like a wild cowboy. We drove up past Highview and back to the Short Turn. By weeks end, there will (should) be no ice anywhere on the river.

Other than near Islands or heavy cuurent flow the OT and The Mad at Arnprior are still plenty frozen. Probably be another week and half of warm weather or rain until the ice is totally gone from here

I couldn't believe my eyes this afternoon driving home from work. The river is completely open around luskville all the way down to alymer island. This happened all in one day. I am going to put my boat in this weekend. I was told of a good spot for crappie in back bay .I am sure there will be catfish/bourbot in the area too. Lets hope for another nice weekend. The weather has been amazing lately!!!!!!

steve2112, You might want to wait another week. While driving home today I saw a 500ft secton of ice that had broken off a bay or something and was floating down the river. Also there are lots of car size chunks that are hard to see.
I know how you feel and am doing everything I can not to dunk the boat in right now, but I would rather we all play on the safe side and not find myself lodged on an ice flow running the rapids in a bass boat  .
cheers
