Yep. Aside from musky I fly fish for trout and salmon and have a trip booked mid april to BC. I'm looking for any suggestions, idea's or information on where I should go if I only have 4 days to fish and want to fish rivers with a fly rod.

Harrison river is a real good spot in April. Make sure you read your B.C. regs very closely. Lots of rules pertaining to individual rivers and lakes, as well as, hook size and fly only waters.

I have fished alot in April in the Okanogan. All the rivers are open then, as well as the lakes. The end of April can be awesome on still water using Chrominids. I use floating line and a super long leader ( 15 - 20 ft)with a couple of small split shots about 24 inches above the fly. I make a long cast and let the line sink for about 45 seconds. Then I slowly figure 8 the line back. The strikes can be savage, bigs rainbows that nearly pull the rod out of your hand. On a windy day when their is lots of chop, you can actually just leave the line out and take off the split shots. Most chrominid(especially beadhead ones) patterns have enough weight that they will sink on there own enough to get into the strike zone.


Unfortuanely, I dont think most lakes around Kamloops will all be ice off. Of course this depends on the elevation. The area east of Kamloops - Barrier, Little Fort, Clearwater is one of the premeir lake flyfishing areas in the world. There is a great fly shop in Little fort. He rents poonton boats and belly boats. The owner told me there is about 10 000 lakes that hold fish within a 3 hour radius from his shop. Many of these lakes hold Kamloops Rainbows, the hardest fighting of all rainbow strains and one of the last pure strains remaining.
