OK - so my girlfriedns parents are going ice fishing on Nipissing with some friends this coming weekend. I know they are using an outfitter and heated cabin but other than that I dont know the details.

Now - just to clarify, the Father's fishing ability amounts to a minnow and bobber. I dont think he can cast at all *** although he did pick up a baitcaster at BPS in Vaugh for this trip - he thought it looked nice *** if you get my drift. (I'll show him how it actually works this summer)

Any advice for these otherwise very nice people that might either 1. help them get into some fish, or 2. help them have a little more fun (other than leaving the baitcaster at home).

I don't want to come off like Im trying to show him up, or make him look like he doesnt know what he's talking about but the poor guy doesnt have a clue (but lots of good intentions) and his wife will probably be asleep on the bunk for the most part.

Does the outfitter provide the gear and tips up, advice and that sort of thing? I have no idea.

Most outfitters will have tip ups, geared with a jig head ready for minows...but that will be the extent of the gear they will supply. In my experience.

They will tell you the fishing was good yesterday...10-12 times...

Your future father in law can still use his baitcaster, he will just need a shorter rod for in the hut.

Hopefully the freinds they are going up with have some experience.

We had our best luck right at bottom. The perch are a very light bite...and we saw no walleye. To keep yourself awake jig a small willaims wabler spoon for white fish agian right off bottom at least you keep moving.

The outfitter should be able to supply tip ups, minnows, bucket or whatever else they require as long as they are using his/hers hut. Although a small fee may accompany this.
The only questionable thing is whether they'll put them onto fish. What I have found in the past with outfitters/lodge owners is that the more you go there the better they get to know you and the more info they're willing to give out.
This isn't to say they won't catch fish with everyone else just that there may be better places to go on the lake and that usaully comes with repeat business.

Thanks for the tips guys. I can only hope for the best - I'll suggest he bring some jigging spoons with him (in case they arent supplied).
