TEMAGAMI Report. (pics)

Blustery cold morn when I jumped on my skidoo to head over to the mainland in Moosonee to hop the train to Cochrane. My skidoo and I were getting out of town for some R&R, it to the shop, and me to the ice with my good buddies Laker_Taker and big stick.

I overnighted in North Bay with the lads on Thursday and a poorly rested and half sickly crew took off early friday morning for Lake Temagami.

When we got there we were happily surprised to be told that we could drive pretty much anywhere we wanted to on the lake with the truck. It sure saved us some time and inconvenience for the entire weekend, and it gave us more options on where we could go wet our lines. :)

Here's the hut anyways... 8)

and it only took about an hour for me to get into my first fish. :D My first laker I ever caught... and so far, the only one I ever caught. :?

After finishing day 1 with only one fish we retired pretty exhausted
It had been a beautiful day though.

Day 2 we were met with real high winds for most of the day, we went fishless.

Day 3 we woke to awesome weather and I convinced the lads; or they convinced me, to try a spot I had in mind from pretty much the first day. We packed up the truck and drove up the lake a little ways and punched some holes. It didn't take too long at all before Laker_Taker surprisingly picked up his rod and found that something was on the other end stuck to his half/half Gibbs and white tube jig. Here's the action and end result of his encounter...

I went on the trip with very low expectations for the fishing. Temagami has been brutally stingy with all of us in the past, yet for some reason we keep going back. I left the day before the other two did and have no idea how their final morning went, but I explained to them when I left that for me 3 weeks fishing there over the years and only 3 fish caught is not acceptable for me to return anytime soon. Although, I do plan to go back one day and try and beat this lake. That said though, I wanted to loose my lake trout virginity, and did. I wanted to see my good buds, and it was great to see them... and man, there more diehard than I can ever remember. And lastly, the photo of Fra's (Laker_Taker) big smile with his 5 pound beauty is worth every fish I didn't catch.

Hope things worked out for you Big Stick after I left, if not, keep well. Already can't wait until the backroads in the Fall. :D

Lots o' fun, Bunk -- great pic's! I'm still amazed those tiny little willow stick poles can bring up a big fish like that.
