Five Must Have Bass Baits

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

3.senkos

The baits that I always have on board are;

1. 5" flipping tube in black blue
2. 7.5" red or green worm texas rigged
3. Some sort of scum frog (I like FROGLIZA)
4. Senko type bait in a 5" and black wit blue fleck
5. 3" tube with a 1/16once weight fished on braid in brown

Always have a spinner bait, but use it only in select areas and conditions.

Hey JP

You're going to have to teach me the proper use of a tube one day, ok next spring? And in return I'll make you a Mr.J. special spinner bait.

Hey Curtis,
One of the most important baits I have in my boat is a Gambler Flap'n Shad. I prefer white but pink and dark colours work well too. I also like to have some shallow cranks like Sub Warts. You should also have some surface lures like Pop'R's or Skitter Pop's. I think you will really enjoy fishing in a club, I joined one this year and I had a great time. I learned lots and also got to show some guys things they hadn't seen before. Good luck to you.
P.S. you should have lots of tubes, they work great for both smallmouth and largemouth and they are simple to use. You can't go wrong with dark colours(greens, brownsand blacks)
Thanks to my great supporters Deep River Outfitters, Shimano Canada and Hunters Bay Marine.

My Personal Choice would be as follows,

1. Jig'N'Pig
2. Senkos
3. SpinnerBait
4. Tubes
5. Texas Rigged Craw

Number one and two are very interchangeable but if your are going for the big bite Jig'N'Pig all the way

1: tubes (3 1/2" crawdad #1 and green neon #2)

2: senko (watermelon or baby bass primarily, not sure if colour important)

3: spinnerbait ( if they won't hit something deadsticked, burn a spinnerbait by their noses)

4: Mann's -1 crankbaits

5: sluggo type bait (white mostly, but all the colours worked) We rig these on Owner 7/0 worm hooks. We feel we get a better hookup percentage with these honkin big hooks.

Honourable mentions. More tubes, Zara spook type baits, tubes, 7 & 10" worms, dark colors, tubes, Texas rigged craw, why not throw a tube?, Buzz baits........

p.s. Mr J: I would love to show you my style of throwing tubes. Lets give it a go next summer.

My (new) favorite way to fish for LM is a texas rigged worm. Fun!

My old familiar favorite to fish for either SM or LM is topwater...most particularly Heddon spooks and torpedoes.

I really wanted to start practicing drop shot style fishing for bass this year, but never did get around to trying... all the stuff is purchased and awaiting next year's season.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

A bait I would add to the ones mentioned so far is the flippin' jig(jig and pig).

tubes

Post by Jigs »

Mr. J.

You can buy jigs specially made for tubes, and slide the tube onto the hook and over the jig head. The heads are made so they don't rip a huge hole in the tube.

Have had good luck fishing them on the bottom, slowly. Think they may resemble a crayfish or whatever. Pickerel and bass lovem. Slow is the key, and on the bottom. Have had good luck with pumpkin seed colour, or any combo. of brown/yellow.

Far from an expert, but hope this helps.

Regards: Jigs.

1. Jig&Pig
2. Tube (various rigging styles of course)
3. Senko
4. Spinnerbait
5. Texas Rigged Craw, Creature, Worm..... get the picture!!!!

It depends a little on your tournament schedule too. If you are fishing Rice for example your partner will hopefully tell you in advance what kind of cover you may be fishing. Slop, Cane, Trees or maybe tubes for Smallies. That can tell what you may or may not need to bring.
