Muskies are just bait

It's kind of funny when you think you're fighting a nice musky, and it turns out to be the pike of your life. I'm sure this 44" Lake Nipissing pike (landed the end of August) swallowed a few "junior" muskies in its day. I landed another 39" pike the same day. Who needs muskies anyway?!

Beauty fish! Wow, must have been a blast.
I caught a 40" pike on the Ottawa River last fall with 3/4 of its tail missing. It was definitely newly and cleanly severed by another fish (teeth marks were very evident). I still wonder in awe to this day at the size of the fish that took a swipe at a 40" pike! That's what keeps me coming back for more.

Way to go Trex.
Glad to see you got a nice reward in the West Arm this year. I tried to shout out on the FRS radio a few times when I was up there to see if I could raise you and I was watching boats for you and your dog... but didn`t spot you.
Maybe we can hook up next year... way to go on the pike man. I had a few nice, not as nice as yours, pike hit while muskie trolling this year too...
Now I know what you look like too.

Nice pike i wouldn't mind a few in that size category... it'd beat the 30" skinny pike i seem to be stuck catching.

Hey HW,
Interesting to read your tale of the pike with 3/4 of it's tail missing. My wife caught a 40+ pike last spring with 1/2 it's tale missing - ours was below Fitzroy Dam, could it be the same fish I wonder?? or is there a musky in there with a particular fancy for pkie tails???

The pike I caught was up in Arnprior, on the other side of the dam. If it is the same fish, it's lucky that only half of the tail is missing, and not its head after going through the dam.

That is the biggest pike I've ever seen.
It could swallow my best pike whole, I would think. GULP!

Well, I'm afraid you're absolutely right, and I'm glad you can read into my poor attempt at sarcasm. Muskies rule, or should I say "muskies rule me." ....but I was very happy with this pike thank you (it hit a big musky spinnerbait during a downpour, and it gave me a heck of a struggle...thought it was a good musky for sure, up until I netted it). If there were more pike around this size available, I might target them instead! (I heard Quebec has quite a few big logs with teeth). Now Seaweed's fish (Ottawa River musky), that's a fish to brag about. Seaweed: See a private message from me.
