Plan A, B and C

The plan Sunday was for Jim Wilson and I to head out on Lake Ontario in search of big walleyes and pike. Sunday comes and we have 20km/h winds blowing south. No good for Lake Ontario, even in Jim’s new to him Startcraft. So plan B is splake.
We get to the splake lake and start trolling. We troll around for a while with no bites and not marking too much. But finally we get a hit. Reel it in and it’s a slime rocket. We troll for a while longer with no bites. Then we try jigging and casting and still no bites. Around 12 we decided it’s time for plan C. Walleye on a local lake.
We manage to launch the boat in some skinny water. On a gravel boat launch with no docks. We start trolling looking for suspended walleye and we think we found them. Very quickly FISH ON!! Jim reels in a nice smallmouth, not the target species but we’ll take it. Shortly after that fish is back in the water my rod goes off. Another nice smallmouth. Get the rods back in the water and another fish on. Jim lands a nice one on his live target crank.
Continue trolling for a bit but the bite slows so we switch to jigging. Cycling through baits trying to find what they want I tie on a drop shot. First drop down fish on. Next drop another one
We land a couple more on the drop shot then the bite slows and we start to look for the walleye again. So back to trolling. No luck after that so we loaded the boat just before dark and headed back.
