Central Frontenac Opener

A bit of everything this weekend. Water temps were between 65 and 69f. Although the surface water was relatively warm, I suspect it was still quite cold a few feet down. Walleye were still in a post-spawn negative mood...slow presentations like a jig and minnow in 12 to 15 ft worked, but they didn't want to chase crankbaits. As usual, difficult to find keepers in the slot. Pike were active...a #5 Mepps in south and west facing bays with emergent green weeds caught plenty of hammer-handles, but nothing too big. Best bite was for Crappies...6 to 10 ft around docks or any fallen wood with bright coloured mini-tubes put some in the live-well.

Beauty walleye and some nice crappies too! Looks like it was a successful opening weekend!

I tried my luck in the Frontenac area too on Sunday. No walleye unfortunately, but managed to catch a few pike and caught several bluegills from shore while I was sheltering from the thunderstorm.

Awesome report Corvus! I was out last weekend but didn’t have much luck! Hopefully with walleye and picks open now the bite will pickup!
