A Little Weekend Walleye Action

Well I hit the ice on the Bay of Quinte on Saturday for the first time in about 4 years to celebrate my 1 year heart surgery anniversary.

Met up with local angler and after a bit of a walk (heart worked well. Lol) got set up and started to fish... marked a nice fish immediately after turning on the sonar... it playing with me following my lure up and down for several minutes then disappeared... that seemed to be the pattern all morning... marked a steady flow of fish that were at least interested enough to stop and follow my bait up and down.... several fish would come 4-5 feet off bottom, but few were biting... finally I convinced some fish to hit my 4th bait, a downsized presentation of a smaller gold Buckshot with half a minnow.

We packed it in a little early as with wind activity picked up threatening to rib my ice shelter apart and the fish activity started to wind down. All in all a nice morning on the Bay, got some dinner and good to be alive. Hopefully will make the trip back down again soon in search of the big girls.

Thanks for the message. I have been looking for a good walleye spot for a while; shirleys bay is a bit overfished and the fish only bite at prime time, and most other walleye lakes are far from home. I'm gonna have to check out bay of quinte

Thanks for the comments guys.

@Zach bros Outdoors

Quinte has good walleye... both numbers and size, but the ice can be very iffy, all winter long due to current, and it is a big area, and the fish move a lot and fish can be hard to find. Most fish caught only at prime sun up and sub down as well, though I have caught a few midday. Added tip 99% of walleye on Quinte caught jigging. Depending on where you are lots of walleye places in Eastern Ontario just takes time to find them. My main reason for fishing Quinte is Quinte and the St. Lawrence are the best two waters in Ontario for a chance at a 15 pound fish.
