Hello,
Here is an interesting article that covers many of heated Bass topics that draw a lot of interest. I have mentioned my concerns with Ontario having such a short Bass season and what Negative effect this may have on the fish populations.

While Catch & Release is the Rave, it may actually be harming our fishery!

The article also covers what I've read many times before that Tournament fish alway find their way back to their territory.

Check it out!

Take care,

Grumpy, that is a great article.

Think I'm gonna eat some bass. They really are quite tasty. :D :D :D

While I don't doubt that there may be some logic in the arguments, it seems to be skewed towards the protection of the fishing industry. The concern seems to be in "keeping new anglers interested" rather than what is in the best interests for fish stocks.

Not that I have anything against a selective harvest of fish (especially smaller bass), just keep the souce and spin in mind.

Well MT that will help explain our lack of fish in the livewell this year.... Did I mention I got skunked last weekend.

I don`t know if I am buying all that is in that article but .... I like eating bass so I will start keeping a few more young ones. One study does not always indicate the nation-wide picture of bass angling. Food for thought though.

Maybe that will bring up my creel limit.

I have no problem with anyone eating thier catch...within regulations!
I don't however believe everything I read...or see on TV or..well you get the just of it. One study can show anything it wants..another can show the opposite!!
I once proved two opposing theories to be true while working at Bell...just to prove it can be done! Upper Management didn't like that!

No wonder it took so long to get my phone fixed. Your not supposed to be mean to management Bacon, they have a hard enough time making a correct decision as it is. :D

I wasn't trying to be mean..I just have a bad habit of persisting and proving my point...not always a good thing.

That a really good news, But i think it for Southern part in US, where Bass are spawning three time a year, So catch and Release will be a good idea here in Canada.Keep those ugly pikes.

I don't particularly target any size of fish, but am happy to catch and keep a few 13-14" bass, or pickerel just over the minumun size limit...Don't really care if big fish bite or not. Nice to catchem but wouldn't want them to eat.

Some folks are 100% catch and release........so be it....I have no problem with that either.

Live and let live :D

It is definitely harder these days to catch larger bass. That article had a lot of truth to it, but, as Bacon says, other side of the coin can be proven too. :?

Regards: Jigs.

Thought I'd add my 2 cents worth lads, hope you don't mind. I think it's good to keep some of the smaller ones to eat. However I've always believed you put the larger ones back as they are your breeders. they are the ones the next generation (fish) depend on. As for bringing in new anglers thats up to us. Take youngsters out for panfish and go for quantity not quality so to speak. Once they get some patience then go for the bigger targets. This may take a few years but in the end I believe it is all worth while. Teach good habits and both sides of the industry wins.

Ok so when the breeders die off....there are no more breeders...and we have eaten the little ones....they never got to be breeders....now who breeds? What happens to the species?

Just stating the argument....

Point taken CB. I've generally been a catch and release guy myself but keep the injured. However I didn't say keep all your small ones. Keep a couple a season. Everything in moderation.
Oh ya, glad to see you had a good weekend with Markus and Snag. Nice Gar, nicer smile. Congrats.

THE WEEKEND WAS FANTASTIC...Nice to catch the Gar but it was the company that was important!

I know ya didn't say keep them all..but I was just talkin about the other side of the coin....for arguments sake.. :D

Bacon, just following this thread and I feel that the only one that could keep all he catches and not affect the fishery is MT.
