Rideau Canal

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Rideau Canal

Post by kevinv »

Quick question, and sorry if I asked it before.

I am looking at exploring it or shore fishing, and I was wondering how close are you allowed to fish at the locks?

I am looking at Burritts rapids, Smith Falls, Merickvill and Ottawa itself up to Dowes lake.

Thanks

I got the info I was looking for right from parks Canada. will pass it on here for others.

Thanks for your inquiry, the Historic Canals Regulations state that fishing is not permitted within 10 metres of a lock or approach wharf or fishing from a bridge over a navigation channel.

In the early spring for Crappies at the locks many folks fish right beside the lock itself, that's even with the lockmaster there that I've seen. No there isn't much in the way of boating that early so maybe it's just not enforced.
