As some of you already know, I just got back from a great trip to Charleston Lake and although the fishing wasn't hot, we had a great time.

My question to all of you is; Where would I find a few good bass lakes close to Charleston Lake? The reason I say that is we want to stay in the PP again next year.

Well if it were me I would always make the 45 minute trip to Loughborough lake just north of Kingston off of Division street. The lake laways produces tons of bass and bass of really good size. The lake is always under pressure and traffic but that never seems to stop the fish.

Ten minutes north of CPP is the village of Lyndhurst. Just across the old stone bridge is a ramp on the creek. That creek goes up to Lower Beverley Lake. It's a shallower and weedier lake than Charleston, about 1/2 the size. It has big largemouth.

Just south of Outlet is Sand Bay Rd. If you go west on it, it dead ends at Gananoque Lake. There is a ramp there, its a $10 fee but it's worth it. It's about the same size and depth as Lower Beverly. It's on the same river system as Beverley and Charleston. It's about 15 minutes from CPP. It's a pretty lake and fished alot lighter than most.

Ganman is right Ive seen some pics in wings bait shop in Lyndhurst, Largies over 8lbs WHOA, I'd say thats your best bet.

It's me PSU. Just wanted to touch base early in the year, we'll be making out way up to Charleston Lake near the end of July. I saw you did pretty well on the pike, hopefully the bass are ready too bite this summer.

I am not sure if we will be able to get to the lakes you mentioned, I think we are going to rent a boat while we are there.

I guess it would depend how far you want to drive but my top two would be Bay of Quinte, Rice Lake both of these I have fished.

Yea they are good places J&P but a little far from CPP (1.5 and 3hrs).

Different type of places too. These lakes are smaller and the fishing is easier. Scenery is much nicer. In those terms comparable to Bancroft/Haliburton area.

White lake is one of my favs. Caught a 6 pounder there a few years back with my brother...

I would agree with ganman to go to lower beverly for largemouth. I have seen some big pictures of bass caught in that lake also. If you wanted to fish smallmouth I would stay right at Charleston as there are lots of big smallies in there.

So you going back up. We are going back up end of june for first week of bass season and to do some fishing for pike and lakers. Staying on charleston instead of red horse.

Since I am bringing my own boat (can not believe I can say that ), Is there a good ramp for lower beverly? From map of lake I have, there only seems to be one near delta. Is the southwest shallow section the prime largemouth area?

The whole lake is good not just the big weed flats and shallows. You can literally catch bass anywhere. On all those lakes I actually prefer the deeper areas. Locate deep coontail weed beds. Those beds are full of baitfish and crayfish. I find the bass I catch are thicker and bigger.

A good friend moved up to this area this spring, and we were planning on a trip for bass...

Do u think the river is deep enough for a 17 foot aluminum, if i run it with the motor all the way up, and using the bowmount trolling motor?

Steve, you would have no problem running the big motor. Get it up on plane. It would not be necessary to use your electric besides its way to far it would take forever and you'd never make it. It's probably close to a couple miles to the lake. The creek is very wide and is deep enough, its just that the weeds get thick. My original remarks were a little out of context.

Although my boat is 18.5 It does have shallow draft and I also have trolling motor too. I was more worried about quality of ramp since boat is heavy although I do have 4WD anyway. Thanks Ganman.

PS: From the maps of have of Lower Beverly and Charleson it looks like Beverly is about a 1/3 the size of charleston.
