Hoover and I boated an 11 pound rainbow tonight with an ugly hitch hiker attached. Once in the boat, this lampray let go of the fish and squirmed all around the back of the boat. It easily attached itself the fiberglass floor.



I couldn't imagine what it would be like to have one of these critters sucking on you.



We looped off it's head and tossed it over board.

Yah, do i get points for that one, i got its head good with them pliers, scared of these things! Had one in my livewell for a few days it wouldnt die!!!

I can't believe you didn't throw it in the smoker.

noway i was touching that thing! it was a fierce creature from down deep, looks like it would latch on and bite pretty hard!

I ocasionally see them attached to carp in the St. lawrence... I often wonder if they attach themselves to fish that are sat on the bottom or if they swim and attach themselves midwater... Amazing looking suckers on them but i'd go with hoover on this one and say "I ain't touchin' THAT"

John, I believe they attach themselves to what ever, whenever they want. These things can really move!

I have had smoked eel and is it ever good. Not sure which was better the Bourbon from Southern U.S.A. or the eel These eels were caught in Gananoque Lake over by Mitchells cottage in front bay,which was noted for high eel population. If you ever get an eel on your line you'll know it. They put up one awesome fight.
Back when Marilyn Bell swam across Lake Ontario back in the late 50's or early 60's she was attacked by about 7 of these critters as she made her way across Lake Ontario.
Often saw many of them in the spring smelt run coming up Bronte Creek(12Milecreek) attached to lakers, bass. They were the darndest things to kill, you could grab them by the tail and smash their heads on the cement pier and they would still be squirming around. The MNR used to set up a weir on the 12 mile creek to catch them in the baskets and let the other fish go up river

Yes, they are not very pretty but I think they still deserve to live
