Big Rideau Lake Lakers

I'm heading up to Big Rideau Lake (Murphy's Point) this weekend, and I'm doing a little bit of research on jigging for lakers. I've never fished for them before, and I'm only fishing from a canoe - does anyone have any pointers on where I should start? Deep drop offs? Fish the thermocline around 30-40 FOW?
Any help would be much appreciated! =D

I was out yesterday late morning.
No lakers this time out but I was marking lots in 13fow to 90fow. Found they were really up high.

I used to catch lots off of murphy's point and the rock wall in the narrows , looking for smallies starting in 70-80 fow and "walking" uphill (towards shore), with a dropshot rig or a tube on a c-rig,they are real easy to find stacked up on sonar, getting them to bite is another thing.

Here's a shot across from murphy's point, on the "narrows" of 'em stacked up

Oh, that's awesome PunchRig! Thanks for the info everyone - unfortunately I couldn't find the lakers this weekend. However, the smallies and pike kept me busy!

I haven't fished big R in awhile, but come July/Aug. if you go back up, be looking for them to be deep !

I wouldn't fish much less than 70 feet now. They may still be high in the column (30-40 down) but the thermocline is setting up.

I live on the Little (lower) Rideau lake. Murphy's Point is about 16km by boat from my yard.
What would you guys (girls) suggest as bait/lure to try for Trout?
I have never fished for or caught Trout but would live to get my hands on one.
Thanks

Jigging spoons or ball jigs and big swimbaits. Pop into Bennetts and ask Shaun what's been good. He will know.
It was great yesterday!
