Welcome Derrick and Candice. The problem now is that with the snow and wind lately getting around on the ice is getting quite touchy unless you have a sled or ice roads are being maintained. 4x4 trucks are getting stuck.
As for other areas around Ottawa you have the Rideau River, quite a few different areas on Mississippi Lake, Constance lake, Taylor and Clayton lakes, and White Lake. If you really have a bad hankering and would like the comfort of a shack then you could check out Adams Outfitting out of Cedar Cove resort on White Lake. If you want to travel a bit further and try for Lakers then you could try Muskrat Lake in Cobden. Easy to get to but I have no idea what conditions are like out there now.

Cheers

welcome to the board...

if the St Lawrence isn't too far for you to drive ( about 1 hour south of Ottawa ) , there's a few spots you could try down this way depending on the Species are are targeting

PM any questions you might have

Cheers

Welcome,
I bumped the community thread but here is the direct link to a map that will help. Basically almost all of these points are areas where you can get onto the hard water this time of year. In summer they are wading or casting from shore.

It would be nice to see that link made a sticky. Craig?? Kudos to Michael for producing it. It's a perfect resource for present and new members alike, whether they be new young fishermen, or seasoned veterans who move to this area. This community should be built on sharing experiences and knowledge with each other. With that as a foundation, this site has good potential to grow. I've never seen so many new names joining as in the last while and old names reappearing. Things do certainly seem to be moving in a good direction.

Besides, I keep having to find it on Michael's profile when I post it lol.

Cheers

We will look at having something like Michael's map (or his if he allows us) when the time comes. We are planning a total redesign of the site in the not to distant future. Something like that is useful.

That's good news Rob. I was actually thinking of starting a thread to see if there were some progressive changes that members would like to see. Like a photography section for Paul, or a firearms section for Doug etc. Not to put any pressure on you of course.
Personally, I would like to be able to post pdf files, like the stocking lists for example.

Cheers

We're actually hoping to clean up alot of stuff that just gets lost, not adding stuff.

We've talked about getting input from the community but at the end of the day we'd get 37593034 different answers, just confusing the process.

PDF's just need to be changed to JPG's and you can post em, photoshop can do it that I believe.

WRT to the map it would be reasonably easy (tm) to transfer it to a different google-account under what ever name and then hand out collaboration rights to modify it to a handful of trusted people on the site.

That way it could become a true Fish-Hawk Collaboration. Would just have to right up a short guide on what is acceptable to post as an access point / bait shop so we don't end up with 45 pins on a 500 foot of shore line etc. The ability to attach pictures to the Pins is also possible, I just haven't pursued it. Having 2 or 3 maps would probably be best. One that centers on everything within a 50km Radius of Ottawa (so it coincides with Fish of The NCR by Brian Coad) The second map with the Urban locations in Ottawa, the third covering the rest of Eastern Ontario. All open to debate / modifications of course.

GoogleMaps Engine will allow an almost unlimited number of collaborators so projects can grow very fast and being self monitoring quite accurate.
Good examples are Geo-Caching Groups.
