Fishing near quyon ferry area
Have rented a cottage right near the quyon ferry on the Ontario side. Was wondering what the fishing is like around there, what is the predominant species?

The predominant species around there is channel catfish.
But being the good ole Ottawa river, there's smallies, a few largies, walleye, sauger, pike, muskie, longnose gar, mooneye, rockbass, sunnies, crappie, yellow perch,
and if you are lucky, freshwater drum.

I was in that area last Sunday and got pike, small mouth and was told there is musky by the dam! Look for my thread McLaren's landing musky question.

LOL....Now this sounds familiar...........Its actually a good spot for fishing.......Depends what your after.....?? Walleye at the mouth of the Quyon River if you bottom bounce or use live minnows...Ivace has a thread on MaClarens landing that should give you an idea.........Just be careful on the Que side for deadheads and rocks....it can get pretty tricky .............
Re: Fishing near quyon ferry area
Live minnows are not permitted on the quebec side of the Ottawa river so be careful there but I have had lots of luck bottom bouncing with worms this year on the Ottawa
Re: Fishing near quyon ferry area
Walleye would be great, bass would be good too. Don't really like cats.

What's the boating like around there. Might just take my 14 footer.

I have a little 12ft with a 9.9 and a 55lbs biw mount trolling motor and it was fine! Mind you the wind was not to strong!! Watch for dead head and rocks near the dam there are a lot of them that I saw from trolling around!

What's the shore fishing like there (Quebec side). I pass through on the way to/from shawville, might pack the rod next time...

Hey Rickant, You will be fine with your 14 footer, Where abouts is the cottage you rented ? ....
The fishing on the Ontario side is not that great except by the power lines there is a good weed bed and some deep structure for walleye......On the Que side there are a pile of good spots....If you go up into Pontiac Bay on the Que side near the Dam...You will see the Tim Horton's camp on your right going in, ...Careful for the structure and debris its gets pretty shallow going in but then drops off pretty good.....Allot of weed beds for good bass fishing back in there , just hard to get to.....On the main river you will see a big pile of granite rocks..Piled there from the old piers they pulled out...Again good but Careful getting there......Good Luck....Don

Re: Fishing near quyon ferry area
Cottage is basically right beside the ferry I think. I don't really know the area up there wrt the river though. Is the navigation open... If I take my two small boys for a boat ride? How far is the Tim's camp and the damn from the ferry?
Re: Fishing near quyon ferry area
From the ferry go up river as soon as you round the bend to the right you will see the dam....Go towards the dam and once close look to your right you will see Pontiac bay ..Tims camp is set pretty deep in on the right you will see the large sandy beach.....Again I cant stress enough about logs and rocks etc.....The river is very navigable you just gotta be careful....Maybe pick up a chart for below the dam....You cant get above the dam via water.....Don....
