Waiting for the opener is really getting expensive!

Way too much down time while waiting on the May 16th opener.
This spring alone, I have acquired two rods, a coveted magnificent Revo Reel (gently cared for by StarTzar, thank you) a host of different lures (from top water to soft baits), new and used, as well as a bunch of new line of different types.
Of course I have also been gleaning many websites for information and set ups, and just recently read that a fellow needs 6 set ups. 5 bait casting combos and one finesse spinning combo. Crap just when I was convinced I had enough.
I have in the short 12 months of this obsession now acquired 3 BC reels, my first a daiwa mega force with the twitching bar. It was good in the beginning, yet failed about 2 months in, the gears of the twitching bar are poorly made, so I just disabled that feature, yet was not satisfied, so purchased a pfleuger, BC reel, eschelon (sp?). Not top of line, but seems adequate.. Then Lebaron had a sale on Stradic Ci4's. Well can't let a deal slip through my fingers, so snapped up one and of course a rod to match.
Just this week I acquired the Revo, and am still deciding on which rod to mount it. The vendetta, or the Bass Pro Carolina Rig rod...decisions decisions.
The crappy part is I now need to find 2 more BC combos, according to the article I read. Oh the pressure.
So the last 12 months. I have acquired for personal use 4 rods, and 4 reels, as well as 3 other spinning combos, for the kids and just in case. As well as a pile of tackle.
This is year one, I can only imagine it will get worst. Or better, depending on perspective....
Who else is filling the void, by buying up stuff while waiting?

Morning Dale.
You should have asked, that Daiwa Megaforce is only good for flippin', I broke the first, learned right away they weren't meant as a all around reel..
I then bought another in a "lot of reels" I bought on ebay.
This one hasn't broken yet, I use it as a spare reel for flippin'. Short casts for cheap reels

I've bought a few reels here and there over the winter but I've mostly spent my money in my boat.

I wanted something more reliable and "turn key", I bought a 1996 175 JohnsonFast Strike.
Bought it from a friend and all of the maintenance was done at the dealer, as of last night it's ready to rock :!:

Just finished my extension and I'm waiting on some carpet I just ordered online.

Bought a Talon, still need to fab or buy a arm for it..

Also bought a 3 bank charger.

hopefully I won't have much more to do during the summer.

I bought a glow in the dark bobber that lights when it hits the water.
My essential go-to gar tool!

Well, with a new baby and a wedding on the horizon my ability to justify spending on tackle is pretty low.
I have actually been handed cash and TOLD to buy fishing stuff that is how diligent I have been. I didn't get to as the kids were all over Bass Pro in SC like it was Disney Land.

But Kudos on the new gear! I recall in 209-2011 I bought 7 new loomis rods, 5 new BC's and a plethora of jigs, rats, musky baits and umpteen jig heads.

Next year it'll be time to sell and replace some stuff.

Enough is not in a tacklehoe's vocabulary! :ugeek:

I still have until June 21st in order to finish filling the void, but since about January it has gotten pretty crazy.

I sold off 3 rods this year and one reel. 1 rod I didn't like, another I never used and the 3rd was replaced with the next rod up in the lineup ( another thanks for Startzar for wanting to try something different ).

All in all I have 4 new rods and 2 new reels to try out and I am looking forward to trying each and every one of them.

As for gear, I have accumulated quite a few new jerkbaits of various brands and the same can be said about square billed crankbaits. In fact, I think the only area I didn't buy anything crazy over the winter was in the plastics department. This will more than likely change tomorrow at the weekly Thursday night Paddletales get together though. You should check this out sooner or later. There is always someone there to give you advice on where to spend your money.

I have also bought a quick release bracket for my trolling motor which I have been working on installing for the past few nights. It is now on and I am hoping it works as well as I think it will. The next up for the boat is a new battery and prop and it should be good to go for the season.

Hopefully getting the boat ready will tide me over until opener. I think this may be a tall order though...

As for your conundrum regarding which rod to pair your Revo with, do you already have these two rods? If so, what are their specs and what do you plan on using them for? Also, which model and gear ratio is the Revo?

I look at all of that information before trying to decide which reel to mount on which rod.

I feel your pain. ( in the wallet). I can't stop dropping into any fishing tackle store in my travels and feel compelled to buy something. As for your interest in BC's, I just recently set up a Lews BB1 Pro Speed Spool on a GL2 Flipping /Pitching stick . Really looking forward to trying it out. Now I just need to find some serious weedbeds with LM's hiding in them.

Regards,

Peter

StarTzar, are you sure about that offer. I am just thinking if I match up that Revo with one of your rods, well it may be like a devining rod and lead me to all your's and Maverick's honey holes. Be careful.

Adam,
I have the Abu vandetta VNTC662-6. 6'6" MEdium Heavy
And the Bass Pro Rick Cluhn signature series Carolina rig RCL704CR 7' heavy action
The Revo is ambassadeur PRM - HS
Pflueger Echelon 6.4:1.
And Daiwa Megaforce 100TSH 7.1:1

ShawnD,
Sounds like your Boat is going to be first class. That talon is really gonna be fun in the weeds. And great
To see you have a solid
Solution for power this year. I recall your challenges last season. Bearing witness to some myself. Hope to share a seat again with you if you can spare one. Any of those standard equipment pink LED Gatineau lights installed yet just to finish it off?

StarTzar,
I would be a fool to refuse. Thank you. I am heading back to Timmins this weekend. Maybe we can touch base next week some time. Behind the dumpster again at Tim Hortons?

Oh nice try ShawnD, nice try. I am surprised you haven't gotten Joe Louis or Pepsi as a sponsor yet.
Ok I better shut up or I will lose my chance at trying out that boat.
