Looking for a spot

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Are you looking to fish within the city or are you looking in the Ottawa area? Seeing as you are in a canoe you probably want to stay away from too much current.
For the west end I'd suggest Shirleys Bay or Constance Lake. Both would be good for a first outing, with Shirley's having the greatest variety of fish, but it can blow up some, while Constance is small and protected.

Cheers and welcome to the site Alex.

On the east end of town you could always try Petrie Island.

JP,

Shhhhhh. Never mind telling these guys about that spot.
But since you let the cat out. It is a great fishery. From big cats, smallies, pike, gar pike, muskey and the odd walleye. And of course tonnes of pan fish.
And it is as JP mentioned somewhat protected from wind, versus the Ottawa river.
It is a back bay of the Ottawa, that when the water table drops, is inaccessible from the Ottawa by boat. But when water table is real high, you can actually make it to the Ottawa river.
There are so many fingers in their you could literally explore it all day by canoe.
Now don't tell anyone!

Jimmy,
I really have only seen juveniles there. But I have not targeted for them, just observed in weed beds. Longest was about 14"'s.
