flashers

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hi Mike,

I have used both the Vexilar (Fl-8, Fl-18 and Fl-20) and the Hummingbird ICE 45. (I do not have any experience with Marcum)

I like things about both the Vex and the Humminbird. I currently use an FL-8 as I don't ice fish in very deep water and find it is plenty for what I need. If you want better accuracy at greater depths etc I suggest going with an FL-20 or ICE 55.

Depending on where you live you should check out Paddletales or Bennetts. Both shops carry a great selection of flashers and will be able to pair you up with a flasher that will meet the kind of ice fishing you do.

I hope this helps.

Let us know what you ended up getting!

Hi Mike. CTC also has the Lowrance Elite-4x ice combo pack with dual frequency and dual transducers on sale this week for $279, regular $379. Big bonus is this unit can be used in the summertime as well. I believe it also comes with a $50 mail in rebate. I just put one on hold for me in CP. It gets lots of good reviews bit is not a true real time flasher like a vex or marcum, but an led display. It has regular sonar and flasher split screen to. Some people prefer fish finder mode, some prefer a real flasher. It's a good debate with plenty of people on both sides of the argument. Do your research. $229 for a good versatile unit is hard to beat.

Cheers

If you are going to get serious about ice fishing, buy a flasher and never look back. Keep an eye on the Classifieds and you'll likely find what you're looking for.

I'm a Vex guy but they all will do the trick.

I agree with RJ...if you already have a sonar for the boat, get a flasher. I love my fl-18, got it used for $300 and would buy it again tomorrow for $400. Nothing wrong with the lcd's but I'd never give up my vex. Anyway you go you will have a powerful fishing tool. Don't get too hung up on the peak to peak power stats, quality of crystal in the transducer makes a difference. If possible, go fishing with some people that have different units you might be interested in it will provide valuable info (or check youtube).

Slop has an LX7c for sale in the classifieds for $160, and I KNOW from his own and my good experience that is more than all ya need to light up your fish below the ice.
