2013 soft water recap

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

2013 soft water recap

Post by Chevy Champagne »

well I guess its about time to put up that recap of one of my best seasons on the water yet

started out the spring with them darned steelhead. This was my first year targeting them and boy do i enjoy it! nothing like watching that float skyrocket down to set the hook and having that 12 foot Shimano bent into a complete U
yup something like this!
Image

to have fish like this hit the bank!

Image

next up was to nail some of the gigantic local perch i have around me
Image

Image

then i ventured to the hills for my one and only speck trip of the year.. got my fix and that was it..such beautiful fish

Image

Image

really didnt spend much time on pike and walleye during the early season...theyre starting to get boring
so that brings up to the most beautiful time of the year. BASS OPENER!
as usual i spent a ton of time flipping and piching around trees docks and thick slop to put some giant fish in the boat..with a couple over 5 pounds in the first couple weeks i think it was a successful opening season

Image

Image

Image

Image

and who could forget that big old gold bar that ate my flipping jig in a tree that made me grin from ear to ear

Image

Image

my mid season had a lot of time spent on local waters trying to figure out new patterns for both smallies and largies... I learnt a LOT

Image

Image

Image

Image

then one of the biggest things happened, I move in with RJ in september. days off lining up together had us out on the water at least once a week. First up was something i have heard a lot about but never done.... Jigging lakers, I struck grease pretty quick as well as an absolute brute!

Image

Image

did some walleyye trolling too.. ANOTHER PB SMASHED!!!

Image

my fall consisted in chunky largies and smallies , dinner place sized crappie, one healthy musky and another crack at steelhead

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

and the last day on the water of the season i hit my biggest smallie yet.. not quite five but oh so close

Image

and the glammar shot!!! LOL
Image

finally one of the coolest things was helping mercer and the guys shoot a crappie show! was very cool growing up watching him to finally meeting the guy! had me in stomach cramps laughing from the time we met to the time we parted ways!
Image

ok thats all I got!
transformation over to ice is comming very very soon!
tight lines and be safe on the first ice!

Chevy,

Those fish are just sick!!! If I ever have a year like that, I will be stoked.

Living with RJ must have some pretty awesome perks and meeting Dave Mercer would be pretty cool as well.

Congrats on an awesome season!

One hell of a year you've had by the looks of things.
I imagine moving in with RJ could only improve things!

Looking forward to the next report.
