Mississippi locations

Hi Guys n Gals,

I thought I would throw out a little request for tips here - my friend and I are going to be fishing Mississippi sometime soon, and I could use some help to expand our list of spots to fish on the lake. We are going to be launching from Baitcasters facilities and the usual pattern we take is to fish the weedline along the Innisville shore (from the dirt launch creek to the river flowing under the Hwy7 bridge at Innisville). Now, this is fine and good, but the issue is that we have a small 14 foot aluminum boat with a 9.9 no it and its quite a run across the lake from Baitcasters to this area.

I was hoping that some of the people who fish the south part of the lake could share some spots where we could find some bass - it would be nice to have some spots closer to the Baitcasters launch for the evening so we can be closer to home when darkness sets in.

Also, any tips on what they might be biting on the lake recently would be super as well. Thanks in advance.

Hello FireFox

I live just off the lake and fish it 2 to 3 times a week (I try to stay off it during the weekend  )

No large mouth around Bait Casters but Loon Island the rocks with white markers and shore line Bait Casters is on holds Small Mouth Bass. Slug-gos and Shad Raps casted over the humps and around docks should produce some nice small mouths. I troll that section of the lake for walleye and often catch 3-5lb smallies on shad raps.

Also ask Mike at Bait Casters for some pointers and I am sure he will point the spots out on a map of the lake.

Good Luck.

Thanks Eye-Tracker,

I sure dont mind fishing for smallies - they are all fun to catch. We usually head out to the lake to get some fishing in after work, so that why Im not so keen about going across the whole lake with the little 9.9 - especially when we load it down with our stuff - its no 250 HP Bass boat.

Do you know where I could get my hands on a detailed map of the lake ? All the maps I have seen of the lake dont have much detail on them - especially if there was one with topographic info that would be great.

I really should ask Mike for some tips, but it seems like whenever we get there, hes busy with other customers or we are just so anxious to get a line in the water that we take off with no specific plan. Usually pay for it too . heh.

If you dont mind - how deep do you find the smallies when you are trolling for pickerel ? And could you describe "loon island" to me - I know there is the larger island closer to the Innisville launch and then the 2 islands closer to the Baitcasters shore from that larger one.

Thanks so much

FireFox,

Loon Island is the first small island you see looking towards Innisville from Baitcasters ( I believe, sometimes I get the name of the islands mixed up)

The Miss has some good sized Smalies. The Small Mouth pictured in my avatar is a Mississippi Smallmouth.

Try Appleton boat launch some time. the fishing is GREAT there...BASS, Pike and Walley. You dont even need to leave the bay if you didnt wanna!
