Crappies Found

Hey Guys,
My buddy and I decided to go back to Petrie and try to find these Crappies everyone talks about. We got there around 4:45 so we didn't have much time to fish. It was very slushy out there but under the slush there was a good foot of solid ice. Every hole we dug we marked fish but we couldn't get them to bite. We tried every little jig in our boxes. I finally enticed one to hit on a forrage minnow tipped witha minnow head.

The image makes the fish look small but I was pleased to see a Crappie caught.

We fished for another hour and a half and packed it in. We got 4 in all and they were all clones.

Next time I go out I will wait it out a bit more and change presentation as often as possible to get them to bite. At least now I can knock Crappies of my "To Catch" list.

Actually waiting it out a bit more won't help at Petrie. You should get there earlier. Never really seen a good late day or night bite.

The fish were there, I could see them but they weren't bitting. I'll give it a try one night to see if I could get them. If not, at least I can say I tried. I'll try to get there earlier next time.

Wallyboss is on the mark. While fishing heats up in the evening for crappies on many lakes in the region, that deep hole at CBay shuts right down for some reason. I'm sure someone might disagree with that, but I've never had much luck in the evening for them. The ling, however, turn on if you're fishing bottom...

Hey I guess you caught some , good to see u downsized your presentation by using just the minnow head. Fishing there at night is dead tried it for 3 hours and no bite. But people on this forum warned me that I wouldn't catch anything but I had time to kill until my girl friend got off work and caught nothing . I find on crappie bay early mornings and 2 to sundown are the time they start to bite.

Good luck and I will be on crappie bay Saturday
