Shirley's bay - Ice -

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Shirley's bay - Ice -

Post by huskyboy »

Good day all

I took a drive out to Shirley's bay last night.. to see if there was much going on...
See lots of huts and cars driving out there....
Does anyone know how thick the ice is out there? not super keen on driving on the ice but snowmobile... I could see.

Any ideas on how far out you can go?

I have an Idea.......'' WALK '' out on the ice and Punch some holes = you'll find out how thick the ice is

I think he was asking so he wouldn't have to do this himself, since there are people on the board who fish there...

Ya you're definitely safe out there.... as long as you don't get stuck on the snow drifts.

We're the furthest hut out (about 1.5 km) and it's at least 16" of ice there now.

went out to the point last evening . definitely want a 4wd to make it that far . 10 in. of good ice so no prob driving out there . We fished in 7-8 ft of water. probably should have moved further out to 9-10 ft as all we got was one dink and a 1lb lost at the hole but at least we got out . was good to have the truck for lights and heat as we stayed out till after 7:30 . cheers.
btw we stopped at the last shack on the way out . they had never heard of fish-hawk lol . They weren't happy about the puny minnows they got either .
