in the sun
I seem to have better luck for walleye through the ice on sunny days on the ottawa river. Does any one else have the same results? could it be the dirty off coloured water on this river? sorry no photos yet havent figured out how to take them from my computer onto the website lol.

There is a photo section of some description on this site... but I find it easy to upload my photos to imagashack.us then follow these steps:
In your post press the "Image" button.

This will result in a tag that will look like this:

This is an image tag.
Next go to the page where you uploaded your picture. For this example I used imageshack.us but you can also do this with any picture that is on the internet, as long as "Hot Linking" was not disabled at the source site. Some use Photobucket, picasa and flickr...
At the up load page, copy the URL that they provide to directly access your uploaded photo:

Paste that link next to the IMG tag in your post:

Then press the IMG button again. This will "Close" the IMG tag... it looks the same as the first one except it has a forward slash "/" in it.

After you have done this, you will have the joy of including a picture in your post like this one I built for the example.

I think that there is a maximum number of pictures per post... I think it might be 6 or 8.. cant remember...
Good luck!

Dood!
I've had the displeasure (and pleasure) of fishing a number of Ontario's filthiest rivers... by that I mean the real chocolate milk to just tea stained stuff. IMO, the dirtier the water, the more the sun helps... but strangely, this really only holds true for me in spring and summer. Fall and winter bites seem more traditional with the sunrise and set times... and the more the water clears up for the particular waterbody, the more the times reset to dawn and dusk.
Best baits dunked for chocolate milk are live marshmallows if you can find them.

FWIW, baits that can pound the bottom to stir up silt, mimick a feeding baitfish, draw in predators with the cloud of silt as well as the vibrations/noise. Other baits worth looking into would have a tiny colorado blade on the jig - my brother uses these frequently for walleye and they work well through the ice.
