Quinte: Fishing over the holidays with my Dad

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Quinte: Fishing over the holidays with my Dad

Post by fatluke »

It's very rare that we have safe ice on the Christmas holidays at our "spot" on Quinte. This year we did, so we took advantage of it. We managed to get out for 5 mornings, and 2 afternoons. I managed to ice 14 over this period, with my dad icing 9. We also had various buddies join us on different outings.

I only took one photo over the first few trips. The wind was awfully brisk, as you can tell from this photo.

Image

We kept 8 fish over the first 3 outings. Here is the "meat hunter" shot of our dinner guests before going under the knife.

Image

That's it for photo's until our last outing. We went out with a bang. I landed 4, and my dad landed 3.

I had no sooner said to my buddy "I've caught plenty of small ones, now I just wish I could get a biggun for a photo", when the big red bar showed up on the X67C. It took 5 minutes to finesse her to bite, and she came off with just her head sticking out of the hole, but I was instantly elbows deep and she was laying on the ice. I wasn't about to let my best fish fade into the depths.

11.5lbs

And here's my Dad and I with some 3-5 lbers which we kept for Jerky.

Image

And what's a fatluke report with out some food porn.

Pan fried cheeks and fillets with basmati rice and broccery.

Image

And a mountain of smoked Crown Royal & Maple Walleye Jerky. This stuff is to die for. The 3-5 lbers are ideal for this, as you can slice each fillet into three layers, 1/8-1/4" thick.

A closer look....

Looking forward to a few more trips down before my annual 4 or 5 day trip at the end of the season.

Cheers!
