What fishing is all about!!

My wifes girlfriend from her school days invited us up to their island cottage on Crosby lake for a day of water skiing and lounging. Having been their once before on a beauty sunny day and having had a ball we accepted without hesitation.

This is where the story starts....bring in William aka fearless 8 year old totally addicted to fishing. Problem is, he is alone in his appreciation for angling amongst his 2 brothers and parents...so opportunity to learn and do is limited.

Our first trip I brought some rods up and although we didn't get to fish much other than off the dock we did talk about his love of fishing and we did a review of his gear.....pretty old , pretty beaten but he loved it anyways.
Upon departure of the island I pulled Willam aside and asked him if I gave him a lure if he would use it with the promise that catching a fish meant sending me a picture.....after driving home the 1.5 hr drive we get an email with a picture...yes William had caught a beauty bass on his big o...and he was thrilled to say the least.

Our second trip I decided to pass on to William a rod that Big Jim gave to my daughter a few years ago....need I say Robin caught a fish first cast with it and it was a good one.

Note the lure....thanks Big Jim

Having just gotten a new rod William was speechless...well almost....(can we go fishing?) was repeated a few times before we headed out on a lake I had never fished before let alone been on only once and trying to hook young William up with a fish! A few lessons and trials at casting his new spinning outfit and William was casting like a pro.

Wind (did I say I hate wind  ) was not in our favour but we persevered none the less. After working some shoreline and trying to find a windless spot William had "fish on" a gigantic perch he said
A quick lesson on holding a fish and we got a pic.

I have never seen a smile like that 8) .....
Soon after I hook into another perch...on a spinnerbait 8) ...no pic

William gets another hit but loses the fish but was still thrilled to have action.

Next bass is mine

At this point I thought William was going to explode he was having so much fun.

It was then I realized our short outing had turned into 2.5 hrs and we had to get back to the Island. A quick view of the pics for all to see and we were back on the road to Ottawa.

Later that night we got yet another email from his mom, thanking us for all and said that William had exclaimed over dinner that this was his"best day ever" :D

And it all started a few years ago with a gesture from the largeness himself...Big Jim....one act of kindness struck the hearts and memories of 2 kids.

You rock Jim
