Hi Gang,
My friend and I bought properties on Lac Litchfield, Quebec last year (Pontiac region between Campbell's Bay and Otter Lake). Lac Litchfield is full of bass, lots of fun sport fishing, but we were hoping to explore the surrounding area for trout or walleye as well.
Would anyone know the area well enough to make recommendations on lakes or ponds to try?

If you want something fairly close, and easy. You can launch into the ottawa river at Campbell's Bay. The usual fare is there.

You going with a tinny or bigger boat? Car or truck?

Thanks MSM, we could definitely give the Ottawa a try. I hear the walleye fishing is especially good around Waltham although I see some ice shacks on the river between Bryson and Campbell's Bay in the winter - I assumed they were after walleye as well.
We have 4X4 trucks, and a 14' deep V w/ 30hp yamaha, but we also like to bring a 10' w/ 2hp into small lakes via Polaris Razer - lots of fun in getting to the hard-to-reach lakes!

I've heard that both Lac Barnes and Lac Thorne are good but still haven't been able to find any public access to either one of them, haven't looked that hard though. I have fished Lac Leslie, definitely good for bass with good access via the Lac Leslie campground.

Is there a launch accessible to Lac Litchfield?

This is one of the issues with Lac Litchfield - from what I understand, there are no public launches. Most or all of the perimeter is owned privately.
The locals tell me that Litchfield (also know as Lac Long in the area) was a big Lake Trout hole back in the day until Bass were introduced by sportsmen. There are spots in the lake at 60 - 80 feet, so I can believe the Lake Trout legend. Actually, I'm marking fish at +60', but have not been able to pull one up to see if its a bass or an old trout!?
Thanks for the pointers on Barnes and Throne - I'll look into it and get back to you if I find out about access and fish.

Yes, Litchfield lake is actually called "Long lake" Quebec govt' renamed all of the lakes just to confuse everyone.

I used to spend summer vacations there at some of the cottages that were lent out. Great memories.
I haven't fished that lake in almost 25 years.
It does have speckles and lakers. I've caught them. Also have caught bass.

You'll have the best chances at the spring opener though to get into the trout in shallower water.

Had a chat about your lake. Turns out someone put pike in there some years back so probably no more speckles, but lakers are probably still there.

There's no public access on Barnes as it's a private lake and can only be fished by residents. However, there are no fish in that lake so it wouldn't even be worth it.
