It was a rainy day in Ottawa South..

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

It was a rainy day in Ottawa South..

Post by Canmoore »

So it was sunday, the girlfriend was nursing a hangover. I was DD last night so I am ok. I saw that it was raining outside, and decided to leave the house and try to catch some Bass. I leave the house (meadowlands/Inverness area) at 3:00pm

First I tried Jockvale Launch, where the Jock empties into the Rideau. A guy with a Carp rig is setup, I throw my trusty old Spook..nothing. The guy lands a chunky Sucker. I switch to a jig, however after fighting off a few snags I decide to pack it in. I ask the guy, where can a guy catch Bass around hear (new to the area).

He recommends Blacks Rapids, so I drive there. I have no idea where to fish, so I scout the area out. My fishy sences first draw me to the end of a concrete dock, where a nice Yacht and a houseboat are parked. The area looks promising, I throw my jig...nothing. Than my Spook..nothing.

So I walk around, cross the lock. Walk down to a rocky shore facing the middle of the Rideau. Looks promising, cast my Spook/jig near the outflow of the locks..had a bite, but then the rain turned into a torrent. So I pack it in, walk back to my car. Break out a book, and read for an hour. Rain is not slowing down, so at 7:40 I call it a day..

All in all, It was a rainy uneventful day. Any recommendations on these areas would be very helpful! Next outing I want to try the Bronson/CU area.

Same area here!!! Meadowlands/Deer Park area... and I am always walking my dog on Wigan.

For shore fishing... best bet is to jump onto Riverside Dr./River Rd. and head to Kars Boat Launch... or the Locks in Manotick. I have had Musky action at both... and the Locks provide many different areas to fish. Even Hog's Back is supposed to produce fairly well... although I have never got anything special there.

Yeah a friend of mine showed me a honey of a hole on the POW side of The Rideau..naturally I cannot reveal it. But untill early June, the spot produces reliable Walleye fishing from shore!! After June, the spot is over run by weeds.

I am going to hit up Kars this week sometime. I just moved to the area in April. Used to live in Carleton Place..I am fairly versed in fishing in Lanark County..but definately not the city.

Anyway best of luck!

Its not that man, as I said I am new to the area. A friend of my girlfriend (recently moved in with my girlfriend) showed me his secret fishing spot. He says that he never see's anyone fishing there, and he wants it to stay that way.

If it was my own spot, I would share it. But I cannot claim rights to it to share!

I have some nice spots on the Dalhouse Lake/Mississippi River area of McDonalds Corners I can reveal to you if you are interested, in return for your Kars spots though!

When I was a kid I used to fish just upstream from where you were on the Jock. There is a small damn and a set of rapids. I think it is called Hearts Desire. I learned how to fly fish there catching small mouth bass. It is maybe 500 yards upstream from the Rideau. I haven't been there in many years, but it was always my favorite place to go.

one of my favorite spots for early season small mouths is right in front of the end walkley road. i fish that bay up and down and cast towards shore, so if you are shore fishing, in theory you should be succesful in covering the same areas. i've never got anything big, but 1 and 2 pounders are constant if your using the right colors.

i heard of a guy catching some dropshotting under the hunt club bridge too. the source is somewhat questionable and i have yet to test that theory. it is the deepest part of that section of the rideau.

theres good muskie action under the main street bridge too.

happy casting
