Pike not Musky?

Me and my brother were on the rideau yesterday from 5am-1pm fishing for musky. We caught 7 pike, and didnt even get a sniff from a musky. I found this unusual because not very often you catch that many pike while fishing for ski. Anybody else have results like this yesterday. Maybe with the heat the musky weren't active and the pike were.

Nips, Not yesterday, but about once a year this will happen, caught 7 pike on the Madawaska one day last year, which we were yold was unheard of??
One night on the Rideau we hit 5 or 6 pike again....
All of this while targeting musky.

The pike weren't too hot in the Ottawa this weekend. They might be a little deeper to beat the heat on the Rideau, hence encroaching on the muskies' territory. Given they're more aggressive than 'skies, that might be why you're catching them on your muskie spots. Just a thought.

I can see this happening if you were throwing smaller baits like a m/g spinnerbait or smaller bucktails, but i like to throw 13 inch jerkbaits

. The biggest pike might of been 4 lbs, thats a mouthful of lure for a 4lb pike. Oh well better than catching nothing.

Nips, 10" Reef Hawgs, 10" Beleivers, 10" jakes, sledges....all big stuff, it was pretty weird, we get the odd one but those two days I mentioned were really bizzarre.

Nothing unusual for the temperatures we are getting now. I am assuming the water temps are getting up too and chances are, the teeth are falling out of the Muskie for the Summer so Pike are able to move in and take over their haunts until their teeth grow back.
Or at least that is what I heard why the Pike are more active now.

The Muskies I've been catching have had all their teeth and are capable of being that big, bad wolfe, blowing the house down and eating all little piggies inside.....the house is down Ron Reyns and there is nothing left/
Thank you.
