Latest from Wolfe Lk. & Hello "Bamboozler"

The "pack" spent a busy long weekend at the cottage during which we helped with the annual road clean-up day for our cottagers' association, as well as enjoyed the nice picnic afterward. (What a great spread of food!)

We got out on the lake a little bit, and here is the best fish I managed: a 26-27" northern who gave a very spirited battle. White spinner bait between some weeds and deep water was the ticket. Released well after a little time to get his bearings boat side.



A few smaller pike were also caught and the kids nabbed some nice, big sunfish and bluegills. Tyler was the worm king, as always, and had the better action.



Shane cannot wait to break out his plastics -- one more week!

Anyway, it was a very short trip, but we'll be up for longer stretches once school ends this Thursday. THANK GOD! I'm ready!


While enjoying a nice Father's Day breakfast before leaving on Sunday, we got chit chatting with a very nice, young couple and their beautiful little girl. Turns out, the husband recognized us from Fish-hawk, particularly The Torpedo on account of his prize largemouth.....

....so.... very nice to meet another Hawk Talker, whose handle here is "BAMBOOZLER". We got to talking fishing and it wasn't long before I realized my family had finished eating and I had yet to start!:lol:

Best of luck to you, Bamboozler, on your pursuit of Rideau toothies and a little escape-therapy from the inlaws. I think it's fantastic that you are teaching yourself to become a better angler. It was very nice to meet you and your lovely wife and daughter. Maybe we'll see you again some time over the summer.

PS: happy to say only one, small OOS bass caught (in 26' of water) while jigging for walleye.

got a pb sunfish(i think) as well but no pic.....measured 10 1/2 inches

Good to see the posts starting from Wolfe Lake.

That means summer is starting, bass season is almost upon us. I guess we better throw in SCHOOL IS ALMOST OVER!!!!!!

It was very nice to meet you in Westport and thanks for the kind words. At some point you must have realized that I could have probably talked your ear off all the way to dinner time…

Thanks for the great tips. I ended catching 6 pike on Monday morning which is more than I’ve ever caught in one outing. One was about 25 -26”.

TT, you are taller than the “monster bass” picture I remembered, which is a truer testament to how massive that fish would have been.

I guess it goes without saying that the “Wolfe pack” are just as friendly and sincere in person as they are in their postings here on Fish-Hawk.

Hey DSr,

we didn't snap our usual picture of every stinkin' panfish. Even with digital photography making waste a thing of the past, I am getting to where the pannies need to be either exceptionally nice or colored to earn a pic. As they say, "enough is enough!" Kids are starting to catch on, though they will sometimes snatch the camera to snap a pic of the one another.

No Schwarzenegger sized rock bass this trip. Stay tuned...



BAMBOOZLER: hooray! You had a great pike outing. So glad to hear it and now you are pumped up for your next hunt. A little confidence goes a long way (at least until the next skunking). Again, it was great to meet you. We'll most likely cross paths again soon.

We mostly targeted pike and a little walleye fishing, but only ended up with pike........

Hey bl8ant,

as Torpedo mentioned, we mostly tagged pike this visit. With only 2 short outings on the water this go round, we didn't have as much time as we would have liked. Kids still in school, too, so didn't want to keep them out in prime walleye hours.

I did do a little jigging for them, but in different spots from my last outing, and got the ol' skunkeroo. Not a bit of interest. Cold shoulder from the 'eyes!

By the way, if you care to know what was biting the best, it was the mosquitoes. They were AWFUL.

On a good note (Pssssst, Bass Addict), the birding was spectacular. Eagles on the nest again this year, same spot.

Also saw two enormous beavers side by side on the shoreline browsing greenery. They didn't notice us for a good 2 or 3 minutes, so we had a great look. Man, they make weird noises when they're freaked.

Foxes, owls, deer and the like, not to mention the midnight loony-tune concerts....wildlife abounds. Gotta love it.
