Lake trout afternoon

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Lake trout afternoon

Post by jsdx »

Friday afternoon, skipped out of work a little early and went fishing. On the water by 4 pm on the hunt for lakers. A small little Quebec lake. We went old school and used wood oars to propel the boat.

My friend (her hand visible with the lake trout pictures) was learning to fish. New rod, new line, new net, new everything and after a couple hours on the water - voila, she gets a nice lake trout for dinner.

Caught on a blue silver rapala countdown. We tried some jigging and inspired by RJs dropshot success, I did that for a while but no luck, had to go back to tried and true sloooow troll and in 20 or so minutes of that, the fish hit. I don't think it was more than 20-30 ft down when it hit. Surface was 19C and the lake was susprisingly cool still.

and the dinner later that evening

Todays outing was less exciting - storm, winds and hard rain, we high tail if off the lake, give up, go home and then the sun comes out.

Gotta go again tomorrow

Nice laker - beautiful colours. Good looking meal too :)

I was back at it again today for the lakers myself but the bite was tough - just 1 in three hours - nobody else seemed to have much luck either.

Heh, good question.

Actually my wife brought over a bottle of champagne to celebrate her first fish.

Later I classed it up with a beer
