Saturday May 29th.

I wanted to hit the St. Lawrence early for a bit of 'eye fishing. I got all my gear stowed and mounted in the boat before I took off. As busy as the ramp is in the morning, I didn't want to waste time at the ramp doing stuff that could be done before getting to the ramp.

After getting a small launching glitch ironed out, I was on my way and fishing a bit before 5AM.

OK......I know I shouldn't always be a one method Pete, so in that spirit I had rods rigged with a bucktail and my ol' forgotten stand-by the 3/4oz jigging spoon.

I tip the bucktail with a Gulp Alive minnow and start jigging shallow Jig, jig, jig........jig, jig, jig. HMmmmmmmmmm??? Move to 20ft.... jig, jig, jig......jig, jig, jig. Must be because I'm not deep enough.........move to 30ft, this is it right here, things will happen now. Confidence. Jig, jig, jig....jig, jig, jig....jig, jig, jig....nothing, THIS SUCKS. Remove Gulp minnow from buck tail and put that rod down, pick up D/S rod and put the minnow on the #1 Gammy D/S hook and down to 30ft. Tick. Set the hook........complete weightlessness. CRAP!!! Retie everything.

In short order the first walleye was on.

Over the next several hours I landed 6 'eye, putting 4 'eye in the livewell as dinner guests. I caught 3 smallies during the morning. With 4 fish in the livewell, I decided to do a bit of pike fishing. I managed to catch several small pike before calling the morning fishing trip to an end.

Sunday May 30th.

With yesterday's success, I decided to hit the river again today for another round of 'eye fishing.

The bite was faster this morning, but ended quicker. I had 3 'eye in the livewell and released 2 before I finished my first coffee. During my second mug of coffee I landed 3 more 'eye. Added the 4th fish to the livewell, and upgraded once. Mission complete by 6:30AM

After that the 'eye just shut down. I tried several spots but just caught smallies, including a real beautiful chocolate colored fish of about 3lbs on a DT20 Perch colored Rapala.

Almost all of my fish were taken in 30+ft of water, with the exception of a fish that I took in about 17ft as the bottom came up from 30ft. The 'eye really smacked the bait, thought it was a smallie the way it hit. Working the area a bit I couldn't find another interested fish.

I forgot my camera, so no pics for today. The 'eye were the same size today as they were yesterday.

My tackle was quite simple. Berkley Alive minnows on the D/S. Gamakatsu #1 splitshot/dropshot hooks and 5/8oz finesse D/S weights.

Hey DS'r - nice haul man. I've been telling myself that I have to give d/sing a try ever since I saw your instructive post on the subject a while back. After this last post of yours it will be sooner than later!
