Hey guys - it looks like the Thunderstorms have passed for the evening. Any Westenders considering going out tonight? I'm thinking of doing some wading/shore fishing and I'd welcome some company. Shout out if your interested, I'm not heading out until 7:00 PM or so.

Karak, I will be out at Long Island locks at about 20:00-22:00. Look for a yellow tackle bag, I'll be fishing the back rapids.

Have you guys ever tried to get carp at Black Rapids?

Until the derby I probably wouldn't have any interest in going for carp but I need to increase my species points and Black Rapids is 3 minutes away.

I've been told all I need is a piece of corn so I'm covered for bait.

P.S. In 3 years or more I have never gotten a single fish from Black Rapids

If it weren't for that one fish Big-O I'd have to agree with you, but I'm living proof that Big-ish fish do on occassion come out of there.

I have to agree with big O that black rapids is a seldum place to catch big fish. I have caught small pee pee pumper walleyes and tiny smally's. I have occasionaly hooked in to hammer handle pike and muskie. There is definetly monster carp in that area. The only thing they are very fussy eaters for no apperent reason. If someone knows the trick in how to intice them please do so and post...lol.......................Tight lines...........Mike

I lost a muskie there last night fishing the top of the locks. Caught lots of bass in the 3lbs range from a canoe in the rapids.

a good bait for carp in the UK is 4 pieces of corn on a size 10 hook, they tend to go for sweet flavours and my favourite was to soak the corn in maple syrup overnight :D, i had carp to 28lb on that!!
trout pellets are another killer bait for carp too

Where do you put in?

Do you park and then portage down or do you have a better spot to put in? It would be great there, got to stay away from the boaters.

Maybe we can meet up one day, invite a couple of local non boaters as well and put into teh rapids.

Sounds like fun.

Mr.J

I portaged it in down the hill and put in. The fishing is good in the rapids were the rapids and the drop off is. Sounds like a great idea to fish the area. Let me know when your going.

cheers.

Me and a buddie are looking at throwing the canoe into the Rideau this Sunday (tomorrow) morning.

Think of using the launch in Manotick but not sure if a canoe would be charged or not. Might alos consider the dock at winding way or the boat launch at the ski club.

So if anyone wants to also throw in a canoe Sunday morning let me know where you'll be and we'll try and hook up.
