Quick Quinte Question

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Quick Quinte Question

Post by Jimmy_1 »

I know the regs will answer it, but was wondering if any kind fellow Hawker could tell me when the walleye opener is this spring.

Gonna get the boat ready and drag her down there for the opener.

Thanks!

1st Saturday in May, which this year is May 1st.

You might as well buy a ticket for the big tournament if you're going to be there anyways. You never know if you'll hook into a huge fish with an even huger (is that a word?) prize!

I'll be there for the 2nd time. The first time, although cold and very windy on the Sunday, was a blast!

I hope you have a boat that handles some moderate waves, as depending where you are, the water can get nasty in a hurry.

I have a 17' that I'll be using.

I plan to fish the narrows, not the point or by the bridge by any means.

Thanks for that info! Much appreciated!

I did it 4 years straight as I found it more to my liking later on fishing wise; ) to avoid lack of accomadations around the area.

Good luck JFV

Good luck if you go. A buddy and myself plan on heading down to start fishing at midnight on the Friday. I was working on the boat today :D ...before it gets cold and we get snow again  .

FYI there's much less boat traffic in Hay Bay. Although some will say there's no point in fishing there as the big hens are up near Trenton, I think there were numerous large ones caught really close to where we stayed on Hay Bay a few years ago. Less chance of being hit by another boat in the completely-nuts areas near the far reaches up near Trenton.

The last two years the winner has been out of Picton. The winning Pike is normally out of the west end, but last year that too came out of Picton off the cement plant. It was 19.9 lbs if I remember correctly.

thanks for the tips guys.

My buddy and I are planning on staying away from Trenton and the river mouths. Might be fewer fish but we figure less boat traffic as well.
