I "heard" that you dont need to have a trail pass IF you are simply accessing the trails to get to fishing destinations..... It makes sense to me ... but is it true? Does anybody have first hand knowledge on this or can direct me to where this is stipulated?

I think that you need to have fishing equipment with you.

Not 100% positive on this but, I think that you have to use the shortest access to the lake.

My understanding too is that as long as you are on a direct route to a fishing spot,need the trail, and also have equipment..you are good. If you are stopped make sure you know exactly which lake/river you are heading to. So you could not hop on the trail in Ottawa to fish Calabogie

I was the one that had this dicussion and I found on line the exact wording for this but can I find it now?? Anyway the way it read last year was this...If you are using the trails to access a specific body of water that can only be accessed by the particular trail system and it is the shortest route to the water system then you must have equipment and a valid outdoors card on your posession. If traveling in a group then one member must have the equipment available upon request from the OPP or trail supervisors.


So in a nutshell if going to a specific body of water then you may access it without a trail pass. Now we have been stopped by the trail supervisors before and they do give you a hard time but we have a copy of the rules in the sled with us to show them. Remember that these guys are volunteers and may not know the rules fully so give them a break if they start complaining.
