Anybody been out in the last day or so (since the thaw) for lakers on Loughborough? Any reports about ice conditions? I have a couple buddies coming up for a hard water trip and would like to spend a half-day trying for some greys...........

I took a drive down into Loughborough Dr. on the way to Kingston on Friday, there were 2 guys out there with a 4 wheeler maybe 1/4 West about 100 yrds off the North shore.... I don't fish for the lakers down at that end ( Sydenham Rd.) of the lake so I don't know if they were on trout grounds or pike water..... I wouldn't think it'll be much longer before we can head out from Division St. as long as we don't get any snow and the temps remain cold.

Thanks.
They would be out over deep water fishing lakers. I wanted to get out this afternoon to spud a few holes on my way out to a likely trout spot, so as to test the ice, but..................it ain't gonna happen.

If there was nobody out there on a Sunday, chances are the ice is not great yet..........

Sorry, I should have refreshed my own thread. There is good ice over the usual lake trout spots, and folks are catching decent numbers of lakers. I have only personally iced one small fish, but I have seen some decent fish hit the ice. All the ones I have seen, and heard about from some local lads, are well proportioned and not the skinny, starving fish we saw a couple seasons ago.
People are driving ATVs and snowmobiles along both the north and south shores. I have not seen anybody in the middle of the lake, and I would not personally wish to venture out there. We have seen eight inches of good ice over a hundred feet of water, go out another 50 yards, and only be on three inches.
But anyways, the ice is good to go for fishing the usual spots.

I was out on loughborough today for a couple hours, no fish for me and I didnt see anyone else get any in the short time I was there. Ice was 10-12", lots of cracks but still solid where I was (about 400m out from the sydenham rd area boat ramp). Although the ice was thick the noise coming from the ice, especially when a truck drove by, was a little unnerving. I have experienced ice noise before but this was the loudest by far.

There were some folks driving TRUCKS on the ice yesterday. Just in case they are FH members I will not refer to them as ---- IDIOTS, but for sure they need to have their heads examined, they went straight down the middle of the lake from the Kepler boat launch. Both trucks had quads on-board. WHY would anybody drive a truck on untested ice when they could instead drive their quad? DARWIN AWARD CANDIDATES.

There were 4 or 5 trucks out on the ice (and one genius in a honda civic type vechicle who felt it necessary to do donuts on the ice) on saturday and a couple of trucks parked on the ice near the shore.
They probably have more ice fishing experience than I or maybe I am just a chicken but I wouldnt be out there in a truck at this time.

There were a couple dozen people on the ice at the Kepler end yesterday morning and still five or six by late afternoon. The surface looked pretty wet, but evidently there was lots of ice. I would NOT be taking a vehicle, even a quad, on the ice though.
