Rod Help

Post by High Noon »

Hi Folks,

I am thinking about getting a spinning rod that would be good for jerk/twitch baits. It would be good if it could be used for small top water baits.

I fish out of a 15ft. tinny with no casting deck. I am thinking that a shorter 6'3" med xtra fast rod would be best. It was what Rick Mercer was using a couple of nights ago on getting schooled. Any rod types or suggestions would be very much appreciated. I am considering the shimano crucial. I have a couple of them and love them. Anyone interested keep an eye on the classified section as I will be selling one of them shortly. It is model crs c68m.

Thanks

A 6'3" rod will be short to try and impart the action you are looking for. I would at least look at a 6'9: M or ideally a 7ft M. You need to let the rod tip help you work the bait.

I agree with the longer rod (6ft 6in to 7ft M/H ) for jerk/twitch baits.

I do prefer a shorter M/H ( + or - 6ft. ) rod for topwaters........but that's me.

The best advice I can give you it to go to our retail partners on Fish-Hawk and talk to them. Every one of our retail partners come highly recomended by the Fish-Hawk members and in the end you will get the proper rod(s) for the job.

jerk bait rod

Post by Big Jim »

Mr. High Noon, that 6'3" Crucial(CRSX63M) is a medium action with an extra fast tip and is the "BOMB" when it comes to fishing small to medium large jerk baits...absolutley incredible.

All the SHIMANO guys and lot's of guy's who are not SHIMANO guy's are using them and loving it.

I thought it may be a bit short until I used it ...you can make an X-Rap do things with this rod that even an X-Rap didn't know it could do  8)

This is a classic example of learning from each other...through experience. I was looking for a new rod or two to try for jerk baits and Bob at Shimano suggested I try the 6'3" SPINNING ROD I CHUCKLED ...I am happy :D :D he did.

When I gave him my thoughts after using it he said "I KNOW...EVERYONE WANTS THEM NOW"

ENJOY :D :D

Rod help

Can't help but comment.

1. Dave not Rick. Rick is the newfie funnyman with the Tuesday night political humour show, Dave is the ontario funnyman with the fishing show.

2. Aw geez, there's another rod I now think I have to have.

3. Probably better to wait until the Carp show. I find the number of fishing vendors to be very limited at the "boat show". Not to say there won't be some deals but the variety will be greater in Carp.
