Hunter's course...Why not Fisherpeople course??

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Should there be a Fishing cours like the Hunters course??

Hunter's course...Why not Fisherpeople course??

Post by katch moore »

The thread Todd had started got me thinking!!!

to hunt you must take certain courses and some extra courses if you want to hunt turkey.... those courses educate people!!!

why not start doing this for fishermen. Take the course, it'd be good for life, and you'll just need to get the "stickers"

sure it might sound like a tax grab, but i would love to see something like that show up. education is the best way of keeping our resources around for generations!!

Bog difference between throwing some lures, catching, releasing and reading the regs....over using a GUN, shooting a GUN safely..etc.

While you can't always predict what kind of fish will strike (notice I said CAN'T ALWAYS...ala Bass on pike opener) but some peole can't tell an elk from a deer etc...

People don't usually die from a fishing accident.

Why would you need a course to learn about fishing when there is Fish-hawk.net? 8)

Everything I know I learned on the internet! j/k lol

this has generated some great responses.

Pete, great idea. money going back to the MNR, for projects, more Conservation Officers...... things like that would be great!!!!

Now obviously the course isn't about how to fish! lol hahah like you said there's fish-hawk for that!

but a course on how to properly handle fish, ie muskies, pike, walleye... conservation methods...etc....

yes it does sound like a money grab..... but like Almonte said...the money would go back to the MNR!!!

anyways i'd like to hear what the others have to say about that??

again the Ministry is always cutting back...why not generate cash?? and educate people at the same time!!!

First there's the hunting course. (Guns require Respect, I understand)

Then they create a Turkey course (100% Money Grab)

Then a boater licence (Been driving one since I was 8, Money Grab!)

Fishing Course??? MNR gets my money from my hunting/fishing licence and all the extras like deer/moose/bears/coyotes anyways.

NO MORE!

Besides do you want to turn all our children into poachers? I'm not going to send a 5 yr old to "fish school" to catch sunfish off the dock.

I think what Katch is trying to say is the course would not teach you how to fish for perch, sunfish etc but teach you the proper ways to handle, release and deal with different species. Kinda like Musky Canada is for I guess. Anyway I could see this not being mandatory unless you want to fish for Musky or other higher risk fish. If you do not want to take the course it would be your call. Look at all the fish schools out there now teaching techniques on walleye etc. Why not have that go back to our fisheries???
