Rideau 'eyes, who caught all the pike?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Rideau 'eyes, who caught all the pike?

Post by The Captain »

Got out on the Rideau out of Kars this morning for a little fish, more so had to get the boat floating to do some work on my trailer than a real fishing trip, but always time to wet a line . . .

Managed 4 small walleye though in about an hour, and decided to scare up a few pike for some bigger fun

I couldn't even buy a hammer handle, not a hit, bump, follow, nothing

spinner-baits, Silver Minnow, plastic jerk baits, nada

Funny thing was the eye's seemed aggressive enough, so who caught all the pike?

It's a tough time of the year right now for pike on the Rideau

Mostly last years weeds

Wait a couple of weeks and with the new weed growth you'll be struggling to keep the little buggers off your line

Once the weeds begin to green up go into the shallows, look for tiny bait fish in the pockets and you'll be where you need to be.

I was fishing the rideau saturday past, and could only muster up 2 hammer handles, and I mean hammer handles, under a pound :? :? seriously. Oh well a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work

Picked up 12 of them last week at Appleton.
It was nice to target pike, and actually land only pike.
Not a single bass unless you count Rockies.

Nothing of any size, mostly hammerhandles, and a few up to 3-4lbs.

Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but is a rock bass considered the same as large and small mouth when it comes to the seasons? Or is it considered a panfish since it doesn't get that big. Maybe is clear in the regulations, but I guess I'm a bit ignorant.

Thanks.

Rideau 'eyes, who caught all the pike?

Lots of Hammerhandles in Constance Lake. The fishing was a little tough last weekend but my buddy's white spinner bait caught their attention.

I managed to get a Crappie on a medium sized 5 of Diamonds.

I read an article the other day and I forgot where it was but they were talking about the pike population on the rideau and st.lawrence having declined significantly due to water levels being lower than normal over the past decade. When the water is low, this affects spawning in the back bays, the pike fry can't hide from prey like bluegill and so on in the shallow weeds. Just some food for thought
