Stroking the Crotch May Long W/E

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Stroking the Crotch May Long W/E

Post by Cyber »

Set out early on Fri. for a long-awaited w/e away from the 'Concrete Jungle' 8)

Got there around 2 P.M., unpacked by 2:15  Just kidding, maybe it was 2:20!
Don arrived shortly after, took me on my maiden voyage of the 'Crotch',
you've already seen what he caught
all I caught was a log, and worse still, the same one TWICE!!

Gorgeous sunset Fri. night:  :D
Image

Woke up Sat. to CRAP!!! Rain, heavy at times, didn't go out all day.
Tried a bit Sat. evening, no luck. :P

Cold front had moved in, fishing was no he&&, Sun. had no rain, BUT COLLLLLLLDDDDDDD!!!!!!!  :P :P
Windy with whitecaps!! Spent better part of time trying to find sheltered spots!!

'Blowing the doors' off Don's boat w/ the Ole 'Cyber Craft'
Image

Found a nice little sheltered spot where Gull Creek enters the lake, west side, middle of south half.  8) 8)
Only one problem, 6 other boats had found it 1st!! I pulled in at the back of the pack, threw out my anchor,
and 2nd or 3rd cast, wham!, fish on, 19.5" Wally on a holographic perch pattern Rapala. :D
Also caught a nice OOS Largie shortly after on the same lure, left shortly thereafter because we were FREEZING!!!!!!
Image
Image
P.S.: Took the picture of the 'Pool' on Mon. when noone else was there!!

Don mentioned our visitors on Sun. night, too bad I didn't have a crossbow I could have quietly
bagged one o' these and at least would've got some meat outta the w/e!!
Image

See how drastically the water levels change in Crotch Lake?? Left this poor bugger grounded!!
Image

Weather was no screamin' he&& but it sure is a beautiful spot & I'm looking forward to going there often,
and here's a couple pics of the lodge and lake so you'll have an idea what to expect on Oct. 3rd!! :D
Image
Image

This is the cottage we were in as seen from the water (zoomed in)
Image

And as for the OPP story, Joanie & I were heading back to the Lodge both FREEZING so I was wide open,
tunnel-vision to the docks and didn't see the Police boat in "HOT PURSUIT" behind us until I turned to put
into my slip and there he was!! :o
He says 'Didn't you see me coming across toward you!!' all gruff like as if I was
trying to "RUN" him :? like, where was I gonna go???
Anyhow he says "Gonna do a safety check on you" to which I say
'Go ahead'. Of course I have all the necessary stuff, unfortuneatley I also have some
'unnecessary' stuff in that my wife has 4 beers in the cooler, 2 full & 2 empty, so technically we have 'Liquor other than residence'.
So he proceeds to read me the riot act about 'Zero Tolerance' and how I'm subject to a $250. fine as Operator w/ booze on board
& Joanie is subject to a $125. fine for 'Liquor other than residence'
but he's gonna cut us some slack and only issue the smaller fine.(How big of him!! :P :P ) So I reply 'Do what you have to', and Joan
hands the rookie cop (I think he still had an acne problem!!) her Outdoors Card as I.D. to write the ticket.
He promptly drops it & it goes between the planks on the dock and VANISHES!!! He spends a good 10 minutes
w/ his face glued to the dock trying to retrieve the card w/ no luck!!
The older cop tries desperately NOT to kick this kid in the butt (the look on his face was priceless!!!)
and upon realization that the card wasn't coming back was gracious (or embarassed!! )
enough to waive the ticket!!! And I can get a replacement Outdoors Card for a he&& of a lot less than $125.
I think everyone in the lodge was on the shore & the docks watching this DRAMATIC Police Take-Down!!
My little ole plug racin' a police boat 2 miles across Crotch Lake!! What a hoot!!! 8)

Beautiful place, great hosts, can't say enough good things about it!! :D

Will do a little more homework b4 I fish it again, but at least I did get my 1st Wally of the season!! 8) :D 8)

Looks like you're right ToadhunTer and Wallyboss:

"Crotch Lake. Walleye - none between
46-61 cm (18.1-24 in.)."
http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR_E001337.pdf

Funny how the first 200 people to read this missed it.

Awesome report... I also accidently kept a slot-fish from crotch... i was sooooooo happy to catch anything that day (first day there) i completely forgot and by the time I realized it was too dmged to release... Felt stupid... but I'm sure i'm not the first to have this happen...

OPP action really makes this one of the best fishing reports ever... You might not win the entire internet, but close...haha

It never ceases to amaze me how some ya-hoos spend so much time & effort to surf these forums
w/ the sole purpose of judging or discrediting other peoples reports!!

FYI, that Wally was only on the stringer a very short time & was successfully
released back from whence it came to grow & be caught again.  8)

So get the twists outta yer knickers & make sure those 'halos' don't slip down & choke yas!!!!!    <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%25 ... /page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_2_205.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%25 ... e.gif"></a>

Ah proof that you did get your first wally! Didnt see the pics till now. That spot back in Gull Creek is a really nice place to relax.

Dont worry about the finger pointers Bill, I was there and know it was released. And so do the other people in the six other boats that were around you.

Cant wait to get back there.

Nice Eye Cyber. Too bad it was a biggun and didn't make it into the fry pan.

I know from fishing with you in the past that you just don't keep fish that often...that is exactly why we may be getting out a few times again this summer... ... ... so when I don't catch anything I can take yours home

Looks like a real beautiful spot.

Cheers,

Crotch Lake

Post by coolspiderdude »

Hey there Cyber and the rest of the gang, being new to Ontario, I always check the regs first and I am a bit confused here. I want to visit crotch in early june and the regs state the following:

Crotch Lake and Mississippi River -
Palmerston Twp.; from Sidedam Rapids
to north shore of Skull Island including
McLean’s Bay.
Fish sanctuary - no fishing from
Mar. 1 - June 15.

The Exception is rather confusing, I read it as the entire lake is closed till June 15th (which is obviously not the case since Cyber just visited there) so is it only a specific area {north shore of skull island?}

Crotch Lake. Walleye - none between
46-61 cm (18.1-24 in.).

thanks in advance for the clarrification,
Locked
